Who are the most Googled NEPO BABIES of 2023?
Over the past few weeks, you’ve probably seen a sharp rise in the term “nepo baby” used online, with the hashtag #nepobaby having over 285 million views on TikTok alone.
“Nepo” is short for nepotism, defined in the Oxford English Dictionary as “giving unfair advantages to your own family if you are in a position of power, especially by giving them jobs.”
The term “nepo baby” was coined to refer to a group of celebrities who have achieved fame or success due to having an already existing successful parent or parents. While some argue that nepo babies have a right to fame and success, others say they have been given an unfair advantage in the industry.
That said, the team at online gaming site 6takarakuji have revealed the most popular Nepo Babies of January 2023 by comparing Google search results for some of the most successful nepo babies in music, acting, sport, modelling and even social media.
With over 3,500,000 million Google searches in the past month, Miley Cyrus is the most popular nepo baby in January 2023. Cyrus was born to American singer and actor Billy Ray Cyrus, who was already a famous country musician, most widely known for the worldwide hit single “Achy Breaky Heart” in 1992. Her godmother is also American singer-songwriter Dolly Parton, one of the best-selling female artists of all time, selling more than 100 million records.
Kim Kardashian is the second most Googled nepo baby, with 1,500,000 searches. Kardashian is the daughter of American attorney and businessman Robert Kardashian, who gained recognition for defending O.J. Simpson in his murder trial in 1995. Her mother is American businesswoman and socialite Kris Jenner (formerly Kardashian). Sisters Khloe Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian have 313,000 and 225,000 Google searches, respectively.
With 1,100,000 searches in the last month, Kylie Jenner is the third most Googled nepo baby. Jenner is the daughter of Kris Jenner and Olympic gold medalist Caitlyn Jenner (formerly Bruce Jenner). She is most widely known for starring on the reality TV show Keeping up with the Kardashians. She also founded Kylie Cosmetics which, according to Forbes, is worth over a billion dollars.
Star of Emily in Paris, British-American actress Lily Collins had 589,000 searches a month in the last 30 days. Collins is the daughter of actor and singer Phil Collins, most widely known for being the drummer and lead singer of the rock band Genesis.
American model Bella Hadid had 555,000 Google searches in the past month. Hadid was born to Dutch model Yolanda Hadid and Jordanian and American real estate developer Mohamed Hadid and has modelled for designer brands such as Chanel, Dior and Balmain. Her sister, model Gigi Hadid, has 363,000 Google searches in the last month.
American actress Kate Hudson is also included on the list with 503,000 search results in the last month. Hudson is born to American musician and actor Bill Hudson and American Academy Award-winning actress Goldie Hawn. She has starred in blockbuster films such as How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Bride Wars.
Model Kendall Jenner, sister to Kylie Jenner, has 451,000 searches a month. Kendall is also the daughter of Kris Jenner and Caitlyn Jenner and has modelled for brands such as Givenchy, Dolce & Gabbana and Vera Wang.
Academy Award-winning actor George Clooney has 403,000 searches a month. Clooney is son to journalist and television host Nick Clooney, as well as being the nephew of singer and actress Rosemary Clooney. Other actors on the list include Ben Stiller, Dakota Johnson and Benedict Cumberbatch.
A spokesperson from 6takarakuji said: “The term “nepo baby” is rising in popularity and opening up conversations about privilege vs talent.
“As our research shows, many nepo babies receive thousands or even millions of Google search results every month. Whether this helps or hinders their careers is down to the individual to decide.”
