Vauxhall Astra Revealed as the Most Scrapped Car Model in 2025, According to Fresh Data
Newly released data from Scrap Car Comparison, the UK’s biggest scrap price comparison site, has revealed the makes and models of cars that hit the scrap heap most frequently in 2025, based on the provider’s internal data from the last 12 months.
Vauxhall Astra revealed as the UK’s most scrapped car model in 2025
Scrap Car Comparison’s data has revealed that the Vauxhall Astra is the UK’s most scrapped car model for 2025, knocking the Ford Focus off the top spot – a position it has held for eight consecutive years.
Considering cars have a longevity of roughly 20 years, we usually see a correlation between the UK’s most sold vehicles of the 2000s and the ones that end up in the scrap pile today. This is certainly the case for the Ford Focus and has been used as an explanation for why it has been a steady scrap model for nearly a decade. But it also makes sense for the Vauxhall Astra, which is one of the biggest selling UK cars in history – according to recent data. The Astra has sold more than 2.8million units since it was brought to market in 1979, making it the fifth highest-selling car of all time.
The Vauxhall Astra makes up for 6% of all cars scrapped this year with the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Corsa following as the second and third most scrapped models of 2025. The Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Golf complete the top five – a topflight which has been very consistent throughout recent years. Alongside the Astra, all of these models sold in high numbers from 2000-2010, and with the average age of cars scrapped by Scrap Car Comparison in 2025 sitting at just over 17 years, many of them may have now become unviable to keep on the roads due to high repair costs.
The Volkswagen Polo dropped off the top 10 for 2025, with the Ford Transit creeping into the list instead. After appearing in the list for the first time in 2022, the Mini Hatch (Cooper/One) has again placed in the top 10, making up just over 2% of cars scrapped throughout the past 12 months. With Mini Hatch models scrapped sitting at an average age of 18 years old and 117,5366 miles, these are definitely cars that are loved and well-used by their owners.

Vauxhall is revealed as the most scrapped car brand of 2025
In addition to the Vauxhall Astra topping the charts as the most scrapped car model of 2025, Vauxhall is the car brand that was most scrapped overall in 2025. With the Vauxhall Astra, Corsa and Zafira models all featuring in the top 10 most scrapped models, the brand pipped Ford to the post with 18.5% of all cars scrapped being made by Vauxhall.
However, Ford models featured just as frequently in the list of most scrapped cars with the Ford Fiesta and Ford Transit joining the Ford Focus, making the American car brand the second most scrapped in the UK this year. Peugeot comes in at third spot for the first time, and together with Volkswagen and Renault, they join Ford and Vauxhall to make up the top five most scrapped brands. Just as with the car model ranking, this topflight has remained relatively unchanged for the past few years.
Though BMW features in the top 10 in 2025, the number of vehicles from the brand being scrapped has decreased in the last 12 months by 2%. On the other hand, Toyota enters the top 10 with a 3.5% scrap market share, kicking Audi out the ranking.

Matt Clamp, Customer Service Manager at Scrap Car Comparison commented:
“Looking at our most scrapped car models is something that we’ve done quite a few times in recent years, and it’s always interesting to see which cars come out on top. The likes of the Ford Focus, Vauxhall Corsa and Vauxhall Astra have featured as the top three for many of these years, likely due to their popularity in the 00s, as these cars may now be coming to the end of their useful life. However, it’s interesting to see which cars are a little more transient within the topflight, with the likes of the Peugeot 207 creeping up and the introduction of the Ford Transit!
“It’s always worth getting as much life out of a car as possible, but there does unfortunately come a time when this may no longer be viable. In such situations, car owners can choose to send their cars to scrap to reclaim some of the value and also rest easy in the knowledge that it’s being disposed of in a responsible manner, with 95% of the mass of every vehicle recycled.”
