Evesham Defibrillators has been awarded £500 after being announced as the winner of the Community Chest competition run by Taylor Wimpey Midlands to celebrate the launch of its Abbey Grange development in Evesham.

Residents living in Evesham and the surrounding areas were invited to nominate local good causes ahead of the launch of Abbey Grange. Once all of the entries were considered, Taylor Wimpey awarded Evesham Defibrillators with the top prize.

Evesham Defibrillators is a local community project aimed at reducing Evesham’s mortality rate in the event of a cardiac arrest by installing and maintaining Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) around the town. To date, the charity has installed 36 defibrillators outside local businesses, on streets, and in housing estates.

Taylor Wimpey’s £500 donation will go towards a cabinet to house one of the charity’s defibrillators to keep it protected when not in use.

Kerry Wood at Evesham Defibrillators, said: “The Evesham Defibrillators team were so humbled to find out we had been chosen as the winners of Taylor Wimpey’s Community Chest competition.

“The money we will receive will make a huge difference. Each defibrillator and cabinet costs us £1,100, not including the costs of the ongoing maintenance. We would like to thank everyone who took the time to nominate Evesham Defibrillators – you are all lifesavers.”

Matthew Kendall, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey Midlands, said: “We are delighted to have supported Evesham Defibrillators in their project to install and maintain as many life-saving defibrillators across Evesham as possible. In the event of a cardiac arrest, time is of the essence and having access to a nearby AED could be essential for saving a person’s life.”
