Puerto Rico Named The Ultimate Las Vegas Alternative For Gambling Get-Away

Puerto Rico has been named the ultimate destination for travellers looking for that Sin City vibe without the Las Vegas price tag according to new research.

The Caribbean Island ranked highest out of nine alternative ‘Less Vegas’ destinations in a new study.

With each location being scored against a number of factors such as the cost of travel, accommodation and even beer when compared to Las Vegas.

The research comes from British Gambler, a UK online gambling aggregator, who compiled the list of popular Las Vegas alternatives after analysing Google Trends data and noticing that interest in the search term ‘Casino Holiday’ has been steadily increasing over the last few months.

According to Google Trends, the term reached its second highest peak in the last five years at the start of September. The only month where interest in ‘Casino Holiday’ was higher was July 2020.

British Gambler found that Puerto Rico scored the highest of their ‘Less Vegas’ destinations, due in part to the overall cheaper cost to travel to; coming in over £1200 cheaper to fly to than Sin City.

With a return flight from Heathrow to Puerto Rico costing on average £529, compared to an eye-watering £1,756 for a return flight to Las Vegas.

The island also scored the highest out of all 10 alternative locations when it came to popularity, with British Gambler comparing the average monthly Google search volume for ‘Flights to [destination name].

Puerto Rico received an average of around 51,000 monthly searches, only slightly behind Las Vegas itself, which receives 73,000 searches every month.

For travellers who aren’t fond of the Caribbean, the Macau Region of China may be the best alternative coming in second place overall.

The region actually scored the highest in terms of both the average beer price and affordability of hotels, however was let down by its expensive travel costs.

London came in third place overall, just one point behind Macau. The UK capital scored the highest for the overall number of casinos and social media shareability having the highest number of hashtags by location name.

The remaining ‘Less Vegas’ destinations in their respective order were:

● St Louis
● Amsterdam
● Gold Coast
● Singapore
● Monte Carlo
● Niagara Falls
