LABOUR MP Steve McCabe has claimed some of his colleagues may be misreading the public mood over the war in the Middle East.
Speaking to GB News, Mr McCabe said: “People who resigned are part of the more recent intake so they probably haven’t had a very difficult issue to contend with yet.
“What happens in a situation like this is your email inbox is flooded with people, and you would think the entire constituency was demanding something from you.
“ Of course, it’s usually quite an organised, email campaign and I think it does spook people.
“But it’s also true that you know, some people genuinely want a ceasefire. We all want to see an end to the hostilities.”
Addressing the specific challenges which MPs serving constituencies with higher Muslim populations face, he continued: “It’s easy to misread the kind of pressure MPs are under. I think the difficulty is that the people who purport to speak for the Muslim population in some areas are very loud, they are very organised, but they’re not very representative.”
Commenting on the return of David Cameron he said the move smacked of desperation on the part of the Tories
“Well, good for him,” Mr McCabe said. “But I think it may be an act of desperation on the part of the Prime Minister. He is symbolic of the problem the Conservative party has at the moment.”
