COVENTRY CITY GIRLS FC CELEBRATE SECOND YEAR OF HOMEBUILDER’S SPONSORSHIP

Coventry City Girls FC has celebrated its partnership with Barratt Homes North Midlands following a second successful season.

The Warwickshire housebuilder sponsored the club’s Under-12s for the 2020/21 campaign and has continued to invest in the future stars of the women’s game with a contribution for their kits.

Grassroots football has battled many interruptions during the pandemic and, with the team now playing regularly once again, the club’s younger footballers have picked up where they left off.

Melissa Harvey, Manager and Secretary of Coventry City Girls Under-12s FC, said: “The girls have really had a difficult time with the Covid-19 interruptions. After 10 games they were sitting seven points clear at the top of the league table, but the league was then void.

“This didn’t stop the team from working hard from home and keeping a football at their feet; practicing skills and challenges set by the management team. They participated in fun challenges too ensuring they kept on smiling and having fun during the difficult circumstances.”

Having carried its success through to a ‘Covid Cup’ knockout tournament, in place of the league campaign, the team were crowned champions following a 4-3 victory in the final.

Investment in grassroots sports from companies such as Barratt Homes can contribute greatly to the ambitions of the clubs and the future prospects of players.

Coventry City Girls Under-12s currently has three of its players undergoing trials with Aston Villa, Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion F.C academy, which is a credit to the club’s success. One player, after three years, has successfully been offered a contract with West Bromwich Albion F.C.

Mark Cotes, Managing Director at Barratt Homes North Midlands, said: “Grassroots sports have been heavily affected during the pandemic and it’s important to support the clubs in our local communities.

“We’re very happy to have supported Coventry City Girls FC over a two-year period, as part of our efforts to help young children stay active whilst contributing to their future success in sports.”

Coventry City Girls’ Under-12s currently train at Bablake Playing Fields on Norman Place Road, and more information about the club can be found at www.covcitygirlsfc.co.uk/site/.
