Bradford Metropolitan Food Bank receives £1,500 donation from Local Homebuilder

Local Homebuilder, Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, has donated £1,500 to Bradford Metropolitan Food Bank as part of its Community Fund initiative.

Bradford Metropolitan Food Bank, which is run entirely by volunteers, fights to reduce, and prevent food poverty in Bradford and Keighley, and work to create a community where good, affordable food is accessible to everyone. The charity helps by providing emergency food for those who need it immediately, low-cost food for those struggling with living costs, and warm, welcoming spaces for anyone who needs company and a place to shelter. The charity is also working on a website that offers comprehensive information for those seeking food in the region.

The rising cost of living has impacted people across the country, forcing many to rely on food banks for meals and additional support. Their role in society is becoming increasingly important, as reflected in the fact that the demand for food banks have been gradually rising over the last decade. It’s estimated that over 2.1 million people used a food bank last year. Bradford Metropolitan Food Bank is aiming to tackle this, by participating in Britain’s pathways out of poverty programme. Their involvement in the scheme will help place advice workers directly in food settings and enable communication and coordination between Food Banks across the region.

As the UK’s largest Homebuilder, Barratt Developments is committed to having a positive impact in the communities in which it builds. The Community Fund initiative allows each division to maximise their impact, by donating up to £1,500 to a different local charity every month, to further their work and to maximise the impact it has in the region.

On the donation, Julie Woodhurst, Trustee and Social Media and Communications Manager at Bradford Metropolitan Food Bank said: “We are really thankful to Barratt Developments Yorkshire West for the kind donation they’ve made as part of the Community Fund. Food poverty is becoming even more of a prevalent issue because of the rise in cost of living so our services have never been more important.”

“There has never been a greater need for Food Banks and this donation will allow us to support more people that are reliant on our services, and to combat the causes of poverty in the region.”

Ian Ruthven, Managing Director at Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, commented: “Bradford Metropolitan Food Bank does an incredible job supporting the people of Bradford and Keighley, and has a significantly positive role in our local community. As a volunteer-led charity, they rely on the generosity of others to continue to offer its services to those that need it most.

“We’re proud to be able to support both them and the people of this region, through the ongoing Community Fund. We hope that, by supporting the district’s low-cost food provision, our donation will make a crucial impact on the lives of those in need.”
