David Wilson Homes Mercia has made a £1,500 donation to Birmingham Hospice, which provides care and support in order to help those with life-limiting illnesses.

In August 2021, Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice and John Taylor Hospices merged to create The Hospice Charity Partnership and, in 2023, the branding unified to create Birmingham Hospice.

The dedicated team at Birmingham Hospice is committed to bringing smiles, laughter, empathy and understanding to all of its patients and their families. The nurses, doctors, counsellors and all Hospice teams offer a tailored, personal experience across Birmingham, Sandwell and Solihull.

The housebuilder’s donation came from the Barratt Developments Plc Charitable Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.

Luke Manley, Senior Community and Business Development Fundraiser at Birmingham Hospice, said: “Our aim is to help people live well, to help you spend your time how you want to, and to be there for families, carers, and loved ones.

“We will be with you every step of the way – listening, offering advice, planning, and easing pain – to help you to focus on living and spending time with the people who matter to you. For the families whose loved ones are in our care, we recognise the trust placed in us and the responsibility which comes with that trust.

“At Birmingham Hospice, the very best care is available, wherever and whenever it’s needed. Our role is to provide care for everyone when it’s needed most.”

Due to the already staggering running costs, the hospice has recently launched a cash appeal for its Erdington site in which it is seeking donations from corporate and community organisations to raise the sum of approximately £200,000 to help build and refurbish its inpatient unit.

Luke continued: “It costs just over £16 million per year to keep our Birmingham hospices running, so any donation we receive is incredibly important.

“Local charities rely on all sorts of donations, including financial and voluntary contributions. The smallest gift can make a huge difference to a local charity. I have been fortunate enough to witness some amazing donations for Birmingham Hospice and the difference it has made to our local community.

“Thanks to this incredible donation from David Wilson Homes Mercia, it will go a long way to ensuring those who need us most are cared for towards the end of their life.”

Birmingham Hospice is located close to the developer’s Tenchlee Place development in Hall Green.

Dominic Harman, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: “We are proud to have been able to support Birmingham Hospice, which offers an incredibly important service to many areas in the county.

“It’s more important than ever that we support those in need and, when it comes to hospice care, it can make a world of difference for the families involved. Everyone at the hospice works incredibly hard and we are delighted to support their efforts.”
