SPECIAL RECOGNITION FOR AMAZON HERO’S COMMUNITY SUPPORT
An Amazon employee who goes the extra mile for her colleagues in Manchester received a special surprise this week when she was nominated for a national Amazon Star award.
Bea AK, who works at Amazon’s fulfilment centre in Manchester in the inbound team, was nominated for the award by her colleagues at Amazon. Bea, who has worked at Amazon since September, is a passionate supporter of those she works with. It’s this support, which includes being a friend to colleagues facing difficulties in their personal lives, that has seen Bea receive a nomination in this year’s Amazon Stars awards programme.
Now in its third year, Amazon Stars is a UK-wide campaign that recognises and rewards Amazon employees who make an outstanding contribution to the local community by using their skills, time and knowledge to help others.
Bea’s support of her community means she could win one of three Dream Boxes – the top prize awarded as part of the Amazon Stars programme. A Dream Box, worth up to £1,500, is a personalised prize to honour Amazon’s community heroes. Bea will find out in the coming weeks if she has won a Dream Box.
Bea was nominated for the award by her colleagues for going the extra mile to make people smile at work and for being a supporter of colleagues who face personal difficulties.
Bea joined Amazon after working in a pharmacy for two years, following her graduation from pharmaceutical sciences in 2020. Seeking a change of career to a more technology-focused path, Bea applied for a role at Amazon’s fulfilment centre in Manchester after hearing about the many opportunities available for career progression for those with all kinds of backgrounds.
Just a few months into the job, Bea is already considered an asset to the team at Amazon in Manchester and strives to promote inclusivity on site. She has been recognised on site as a good listener and as someone who helps keep spirits high among her colleagues.
Outside work, Bea takes part in online training in digital marketing to develop her skillset and boost her career progression. She would one day love to find a role at Amazon that allows her to put her marketing knowledge into practice and hopes to utilise Amazon’s Career Choice programme to boost her professional development further.
Speaking after learning of her nomination in this year’s awards, Bea said:
“Amazon is a great place to work. From day one, I learned from the example of those around me how to be a supportive colleague and how to make people feel welcome and included. I am provided with all the resources I need to succeed and hope to one day become a manager in the tech space at Amazon so that I can pass on my knowledge to others.
“I was so surprised to be nominated for an Amazon Star award as I believe that being friendly and making others happy is such a natural desire. It’s lovely to hear that my colleagues appreciate me and I’m thankful to them for this nomination.”
Ian Jackson, General Manager at Amazon in Manchester, added: “The Amazon Stars programme is our way of saying thank you to our colleagues who go above and beyond to have a positive impact on the community. Bea does some incredible work on site and everyone at Amazon in Manchester is proud of her. Bea is fully deserving of this fantastic nomination, and I wish her the best of luck ahead of the big reveal of this year’s winners.”
Last year, the three winners were: Aizaz Hussain, a spoken-word artist who dedicates his time and his art to helping people with mental health struggles; Phil Hayden, a dedicated NHS volunteer who has also made more than 600 blood donations over the past 36 years; and Richard Burtenshaw, a community children’s football coach who found creative ways of keeping the players active during lockdown.
