Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez rank as most influential celebrity couple

Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez are the most influential celebrity couple, according to a new study ranking combined celebrity followings.

The research which was conducted by KeyOpinionLeaders looked at the combined Twitter and Instagram followers for 125 celebrity couples to see who has the largest combined online influence.

It found that global football megastar Cristiano Ronaldo and Spanish model Georgina Rodríguez take the crown as the most influential celebrity couple, with a combined following of 646.8 million followers – nearly 175 million followers more than the second-place celebrity couple.

The couple, who first started dating in late 2016, crossed paths while Rodríguez was working as a sales assistant at a Gucci store in Spain. The pair fell quickly in love and now live with their family of five children in Cascais, Portugal where they recently purchased a luxury pad which totalled around £17 million.

Their enormous total online following is primarily led by Ronaldo’s Instagram page, which recently surpassed 500 million followers for the second time in the account’s history. Rodríguez also holds a prominent place on the platform, with 39.4 million Instagram followers of her own, to contribute to the couples’ overall online following.

The second most influential couple were found to be internet personality Kylie Jenner and rapper and record producer Travis Scott, with a combined following of 471.9 million followers across their Twitter and Instagram accounts.

The couple who first started dating back in April 2017, have two children together, Stormi who was born in 2018 and Wolf who was born in February earlier this year. The couple have since decided on a different name for Wolf, but they have not yet disclosed this to the public.

The couple are certainly not without their ups and downs, however, with Scott facing multiple accusations of cheating throughout their relationship, all of which he has profusely denied. Despite this, the pair appear to still be very much in love, having recently been spotted holding hands on a romantic beach holiday in Malibu earlier this month.

Taking the third spot is pop singer Justin Bieber and model Hailey Bieber, who have a grand total of 428.4 million followers across their socials.

The couple were first introduced to one another back in 2009 by Hailey’s father Stephen Baldwin, but it wasn’t until 2015 that the pair became romantically involved. The two remained friends for a few years, before rekindling their romance in June 2018. By October of the same year, they confirmed they were married, and that Hailey would be adopting the iconic Bieber surname.

In fourth place is Argentinian footballer Lionel Messi and spouse Antonela Roccuzzo who have a combined 398.8 million followers in total. The pair’s online following is predominantly fuelled by Messi’s enormous number of Instagram followers, as neither one of the couple having an active Twitter account. Roccuzzo contributes a healthy 20.8 million Instagram followers of her own to the couple’s overall total.

Rounding off the top five is Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and partner Lauren Hashian, with a combined following of 367.1 million followers. Famous for his hulking physique and legendary cheat days, ‘The Rock’ understandably makes up the bulk of the total followers, however Lauren contributes a respectable 1.2 million Instagram followers of her own to the couple’s overall total.

Ana Codallo, who is an Influencer Officer at KeyOpinionLeaders commented:

“With the 2022 World Cup underway and a recent decision to leave premier league club Manchester United, Ronaldo is perhaps one of the most talked about people in the world right now.

“It makes sense that someone so widely recognised places top of the list, alongside partner Georgina Rodríguez, to be crowned as the most influential celebrity couple.

“For many celebrities in the spotlight, it can be difficult to escape the responsibility that comes with having such worldwide attention. In fact, we found that many celebrities choose not to have social media accounts at all, instead preferring to keep their dating life out of the public eye as much as possible.

“Other celebrities are more open with their followers about their relationships, particularly if they have long term partners or have been married for several years. Tagging one another’s social media accounts is a sure-fire way for celebrities to drive followers to a partner’s account and increase their online audience.”
