NAVA Propertymark took to the stage to dispel myths on auctioneering

Amazing prizes, free Monopoly-style banknotes, and a stellar expert panel of outstanding auctioneers and valuers providing insight and busting myths surrounding the world of auctioneering were all on offer at NAVA Propertymark’s 2025 Propertymark One breakout session, and the hosts were thrilled with its success.
Their breakout session ‘Bang Your Own Gavel’ featured independent valuer and auctioneer Izzie Balmer who has appeared on TV programmes such as BBC TV’s Antiques Road Trip, The Travelling Auctioneers, Flog It!, and Bargain Hunt – discussing the need for expert experience when appraising the contents of a property.
It was led by a collection of the current (Stuart Collar-Brown), immediate past (Richard Worrall) and past presidents (Melfyn Williams) who planned the programme for the event, and Chris Platts, a NAVA Propertymark Advisory Panel Board member who provided a useful insight into the licenced premises side of valuation and auction.
The session aimed to educate attendees and dispel certain myths about the auction process to inform that that it is open to all sellers and buyers and that finance can be arranged for auction purchases.
Using Monopoly-style banknotes designed by NAVA Propertymark, attendees got to bid on unique prizes such as a Level 3 Propertymark qualification on valuation and auctioneering and champagne that featured the NAVA Propertymark logo.
2025’s Propertymark Once Conference included an impressive selection of speakers such as Location, Location, Location presenter Kirstie Allsopp, leading cyberpsychologist Dr Elaine Kasket, radio and TV presenter Daisy McAndrew, who also featured at #PMOne 2024, and medical doctor Professor Steve Peters.
The event represents an amazing opportunity for around 2,000 property professionals to learn about the latest industry news and network.
Stuart Collar-Brown, NAVA Propertymark President, said:
“Our session was such good fun to be a part of – as auctioneers, we love to create theatre and energy in the room – and this year’s event did not disappoint! Lots of crowd interaction, lots of smiling faces and laughter with the added benefit of teaching the crowd something they didn’t know about property and chattels auctions – so a roaring success all round.”
Richard Worrall, NAVA Propertymark Immediate Past President, said:
“It was a real privilege to work with an experienced and well-established valuer and auctioneer like Izzie Balmer, Chris Platts, who brought a different style to this year’s event thanks to his expertise in the licenced premises business, and fellow former NAVA Propertymark president Melfyn Williams. Current President, Stuart Collar-Brown had an excellent vision for this year’s breakout session. We couldn’t have been any happier with its success!”
