Live onboard £35m Cruise-Inspired The Liner in Falmouth
Lovers of the clean nautical lines of cruise ships can now live “on-board” all year. Developer Acorn Property Group has unveiled the beachfront scheme with the ultimate nautical residential address, The Liner, in Falmouth.
Situated on Cliff Road, fronting directly onto Gyllyngvase Beach, The Liner is a £35 million beautifully designed residential building. The six-storey ocean liner style building, comprises 53 luxury sea view apartments, including two duplex penthouses, sitting above retail facilities,
allocated podium parking and surf-style storage lockers.
Offering uninterrupted south-facing sea views over the award-winning Gyllyngvase Beach and out to sea, The Liner, designed by Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole Architects, offers the very best in nautical inspired contemporary coastal living. Instead of a conventional footprint and façade, the ‘V’ shaped six-storey building is designed to echo the sleek bow and upper decks of an ocean liner, with even a ‘bridge’, containing penthouses, on the top of the building.
When viewed from Gyllyngvase Beach, The Liner development looks like a passenger ship and is skilfully designed to make the most of the spectacular sea views and beachfront setting. The building’s ground floor features a 3,000 sqft retail unit/shop, opening onto the beachfront, with the curved roofline designed like ocean waves; above this the upper floors are designed to look like the bow of a ship cutting through the waves.
Located from ground to top floor there are a wide variety of spacious one, two and three bedroom apartments, ranging from 458 sqft up to 1,865 sqft in size, each opening onto private balconies or wrap around terraces, with buyers able to choose from a range of different apartment layouts in order to meet their personal tastes and lifestyle needs. The ground floor apartments open onto private patio gardens.
All of The Liner’s principal rooms have sea views and 75 of the 113 bedrooms also have sea views. The one-bedroom apartments have a reception room with open plan kitchen and a bedroom and adjoining bathroom with double shower. The living room and bedroom open onto an outside balcony.
Complete with a private balcony, the two-bedroom apartments have a spacious living and dining area, incorporating an open plan kitchen with breakfast bar. The principal bedroom suites have ensuite bathrooms and the second bedrooms have use of the family bathroom.
The three-bedroom apartments have a double reception room, including space for a 6-8 seat dining table, alongside a large open plan kitchen/breakfast area. The principal bedroom suite has an ensuite bathroom and in a selection of these apartments the main guest bedroom suite also benefits from an ensuite bathroom. There is also a separate main bathroom with bathtub, ideal for a luxurious soak and relaxation.
On the uppermost fifth and top sixth floors there are the two duplex penthouses, each with unique layouts, the upper levels located in the ‘bridge’ structure at the crest of the building. One penthouse is reserved, with the other currently for sale.
The available penthouse has a vast triple reception room on the lower level, bordered by a large wrap around terrace. Featuring a coffered ceiling with inset feature LED lighting, the reception room provides multiple seating areas, a dining area and a family kitchen with central island/breakfast bar. There is also a bedroom on this floor.
On the penthouse upper level, housed within the ‘bridge’, are two VIP bedroom suites, one with a walk-in dressing room and ensuite bathroom and the other with an ensuite and private rooftop balcony.
All the apartments have spacious reception rooms with floor-to-ceiling large format windows providing views over the beachfront and ocean, with features including Karndean wood strip flooring and dimmer/mood lighting. The living space provides panoramic views over the beach and waterfront with sliding glass doors opening onto private balconies or wrap around terraces.
The fully fitted designer kitchens, specified by Arcos Interiors, have contemporary wall and base units by Stormer, with Quartz stone worktops and integrated Bosch appliances including a wine/champagne cooler. The beautiful bathrooms and ensuites have contemporary white suites with porcelain floor and wall tiling, wall mirrors, heated towel rails and thermostatic showers. Other finishing touches include underfloor heating, lighting to balconies and terraces and high-speed internet connection for home working, news and entertainment.
The Liner is adjacent to the renowned St Michaels Resort, a luxury hotel, spa and health club, and residents can apply to take membership of the state-of-the-art wellness facilities on their doorstep.
Stuart Brereton, Managing Director of Acorn Blue, Acorn Property Group’s Cornwall region, says: “Located on a unique and wonderful beachfront site in the heart of Falmouth The Liner is a bold and imaginative regeneration project providing nautical inspired architecture and bespoke design apartments that provide the very best in beachfront living in Cornwall.”
The Liner is scheduled for completion in early Spring 2021 and is already over 70% forward sold with the beachfront apartments selling to a combination of owner-occupiers, second homeowners and retirement households.
Acorn Property Group gained full planning permission for The Liner project in July 2018, the oceanfront site formerly occupied by the Falmouth Beach Hotel, which operated on the site between 1984 to 2012, replacing an original, nautically themed, Victorian hotel known as The Pentargan Hotel.
Falmouth, Cornwall’s leading commercial port, was founded in 1540 by King Henry VIII and was developed into a coastal centre by local landowner Sir John Killigrew from 1613 under the auspices of King James I. Today Falmouth, with five main beaches, is cited by The Sunday Times as the Best Place To Live in Cornwall, an attractive tourist centre and Cornwall’s second largest town, with some two million tourist and business visitors per annum.
