COUPLE FIND LOVE AT FIRST ‘SITE’ FOLLOWING SURPRISE PROPOSAL AT HOUSEBUILDER’S DEVELOPMENT IN RUGBY

A Warwickshire couple are happily engaged after a surprise proposal assisted by leading developer Barratt Homes following the completion of their new home in Rugby.

Roger Montoya-Mejia (42), a Design Leader at KIER, planned the perfect surprise for his fiancé, Chiara (39), to get the couple off to the perfect start in their brand-new home. Working in cahoots with Julie and Bob, the Sales Advisers at Elborough Place, Roger kept the secret of his proposal under wraps until the first time the family set foot in their completed home.

Roger said: “Chiara and I first met as housemates in Birmingham, and we started dating three years ago. She won me over with her irresistible charm and kind heart.”

Originally from Italy, Chiara was living in rented accommodation with Honduran native Roger, his 10-year-old daughter Emilia, and Coco the sausage dog in Daventry. The family decided to move to the development in order to upsize and be closer to Emilia’s school.

After reserving their first home together, Roger decided it was the perfect time to take the next step in their relationship, and the plans were set in motion. After collecting their keys on their completion date, the family were shown around their home for the first time.

Upon entering the dining room, an unsuspecting Chiara was met with balloons that spelled out the important question, “Will you marry me?” and the sight of Roger on one knee with a ring in hand.

After accepting his proposal, the couple are looking forward to their next stage as a family, and have fallen just as in love with their three-bedroom Maidstone style home.

Roger said: “The Maidstone suited our budget and family needs. The house has a garden and there’s enough room for all of us. It’s also suitable for working from home.”

Chiara, an Operations Manager at British Red Cross, added: “We chose a new build because we liked the efficiencies that they provide. It’s also nice to know that we’re the first ones living in it.”

Looking to the future, the family have had chance to reflect on what they’re most looking forward to once they’re fully moved in. Roger said: “I’m looking forward to making the home our own, and putting our personalised stamp on it. Most importantly, I’m looking forward to married life!”

Chiara added: “The first time we saw our home was exciting, and we are grateful to Barratt Homes, and especially the Sales Advisers, for capturing the moment and making it even more special for us.”

Elborough Place on Ashlawn Road offers a sanctuary away from city life, while also having great travel links. There are direct trains to London and Birmingham via Rugby, and commuter links via the M45, M1 and M6.

The development is proving popular and has gathered a lot of interest as it located near an Outstanding-rated school. For residents who enjoy the town centre, the high street is only a short distance away with shops, cafes and restaurants. Rugby town centre is an easy drive away, and the historic town of Warwick within reach.

Elborough Place is now open on an appointment only basis and has a number of three and four bedroom homes available, with prices starting from £279,995.
