Don’t wait for the Boxing Day sales, as the best bargains can be found on Black Friday, is the message to consumers.

Black Friday is now the shopping event for better savings, according to Gtech’s CEO Nick Grey.

“The retail landscape has changed in recent years, and Black Friday has now superseded the traditional Boxing Day sales in terms of the event where the biggest savings are offered,” says Nick.

He says that in recent years, sales on Black Friday – traditionally the last Friday in November when retailers offer generous discounts – have been five times of those of Boxing Day.

“With the cost of living rising rapidly, Black Friday really is the opportunity to make purchases – whether it’s Christmas presents or much-needed home appliances – at the best prices.”

He adds: “In a way, it makes perfect sense for the consumer to be offered a sale before Christmas rather than after it – I remember as a child hearing my mother try to decide if she should buy something for Christmas or wait until the January sales to see if it was cheaper. As I was one of seven children, she needed to be thrifty.”

Do your research – some deals go live earlier than others, with many Black Friday shopping events being launched mid-November.
Sign up to the mailing lists of the retailers you are interested in purchasing from as they often give subscribers early access to deals.
Once you find what you are looking for at the right price, make the purchase – some retailers have limited stock of Black Friday items.
Always read the T&Cs; discounted stock sometimes carries different aftercare policies.
