Cash strapped party lovers are being urged to follow steps to host the perfect spooky bash on a budget this Halloween.

Online wholesaler, Wholesale Sweets are advising how to plan an event for friends and family this halloween without breaking the bank.

Halloween parties do not need to be expensive and there are plenty of things in the cupboard at home which can be used to reduce costs.

Money saving tips include cutting bats out of bing bags and bulk buying yummy Halloween sweets to make a huge creepy display or to offer to trick or treaters who come knocking.

A spokesperson for Wholesale Sweets said: “With the cost of living due to increase even further in October as the energy cap rises it is becoming even more important to save money where we can.

“But that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate Halloween this year as there are plenty of ways to have a fun, spooky night whilst still staying on budget. Making your own costumes and food instead of buying them will save a lot of money as it is, and decorations can be handmade too.

“Try out these Halloween party ideas to not only host a fun party for your guests this year, but to also not break the bank with expensive themed foods and decorations.”

How to host Halloween parties whilst saving money:

Make some pumpkin slime
Slime is really easy to make and serves as a fun activity for Halloween parties. Use the leftover stringy pumpkin guts and seeds after carving and mix together with some clear glue and liquid starch. Next just knead the slime and add more liquid starch to get a nice consistency as desired.

Eerie sweet platters
An easy and cheap way to create a spooky evening is to craft Halloween sweetie platters. There are lots of yummy sweet treats with a creepy theme, and they all taste delicious too! Spread out the sweets on a big serving plate for guests to enjoy throughout the night.

Sweet table displays
Go one step further than sweet platters and create a whole sweet-Halloween themed table. It’s a really great idea to bulk buy these sweets for a budget friendly party. Use a decorative table cloth and cover in Halloween sweets, chocolates and treats for a yummy party snack. These sweets serve as fab spooky displays by themselves as well.

DIY costumes
Halloween costumes do not need to be expensive this year and household items can make fun and traditional outfits without breaking the bank. Become a witch with a bin bag and a broom, or a ghost with an old white sheet marked with black pen to make the face. To become a Halloween ancient Egyptian Mummy, just cover yourself in toilet roll and bandages.

Edible spooky decor
Use up foods in the cupboard to create some yummy edible Halloween decor and treats for the party. Satsumas with a small bit of cucumber stuck in the top will make sweet mini pumpkins and the peel can be carved too. Peel and half bananas and use chocolate chips or chocolate icing to decorate the fruit to make ghost faces. Also, get some biscuits and decorate with icing to make monster eyeballs.

Creepy homemade decorations
Party decorations can still bring a creepy Halloween-feel and be super cheap to make. Fake cobwebs are very affordable at budget supermarkets and can be put all over the house before the party starts. Cut out bats and spiders from bin bags and stick them up over the walls, and of course pumpkins make a fitting Halloween decoration and provide a fun activity for kids (and adults!).
