Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes recently sponsored a Bingham school’s ‘Construction Corner’ to encourage Early Years pupils to be more imaginative in their learning.

The £900 sponsorship from the two leading housebuilders helped to supply Robert Miles Infant School’s Foundation pupils with a wide range of building resources to spark creativity and resourcefulness in a designated space in the classroom.

Included within the items funded for the school’s Construction Corner were large and small wheels, plastic and wooden pieces, and pretend tools including hammers, spanners and screwdrivers.

Also purchased were toy nuts, bolts, blocks and handles made from wood and plastic to help the children build a wide variety of things as part of their early learning.

Sonja Adams, Head Teacher at Robert Miles Infant School, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes for their generous gift. Our children have really enjoyed constructing with them, from farms to space centres they have shown great imagination.

“We are always keen to make links with our local community and the children, many of whom live in the new homes, have watched the building works with great interest. Placed in the heart of Bingham and only a five-minute walk from the new housing development, we are keen to welcome as many new families as possible.”

Art and design skills are nurtured with all of the items sourced for the ‘Construction Corner’, as the children are now able to express and represent what they know about their world through designing and building from their ideas.

Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes each donated a hard hat to the pupils to help them get into character when engineering new builds.

Rachael Harrison, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said: “We were thrilled when Robert Miles Infant School approached us with its idea to implement a ‘Construction Corner’ as we’re always looking to encourage pupils to show an interest in the industry from an early age.”

Jan Ruston, Sales Director at Barratt Homes North Midlands, said: “It was our pleasure to support Robert Miles Infant School with such a fantastic project and we hope the pupils continue to get excited by construction as they’re the next generation of builders.”

Robert Miles Infant School is located close to the homebuilders’ Romans’ Quarter development, on Dunsmore Avenue in Bingham.
