Sports Law Expert Robert Boland Joins Faculty at Seton Hall University School of Law

Seton Hall Law continues to build its Gaming, Hospitality, Entertainment and Sports Law initiative, hiring Robert Boland as an Assistant Professor to help develop and expand Seton Hall’s Sports Law offerings. Prior to joining Seton Hall, Professor Boland was the Athletics Integrity Officer at Pennsylvania State University, where he oversaw the athletics program’s compliance with all legal and ethical standards required by law, the University, the Big Ten and the NCAA, and held teaching appointments at both Penn State’s Law School and School of Labor and Employment Relations.

Bob Boland Seton Hall University School of Law.pngProfessor Boland joined Penn State from Ohio University, where he was a faculty member and directed the MBA/Masters in the University’s Sports Administration program. From 2001 – 2015, Professor Boland was the founding faculty member of New York University’s Masters in Sports Business program and later served as Academic Chair of NYU’s Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management. During his time at NYU, Professor Boland also reintroduced and taught a Sports Law course at NYU Law School, co-teaching with Arthur Miller.

An accomplished sport, labor, antitrust, and criminal lawyer with more than 20 years of experience as a player agent, Professor Boland has negotiated player and endorsement agreements across a variety of sports. He has also served as an advisor to professional franchise purchase groups, professional teams, universities, and conferences on legal, economic, stadium, strategic and search issues.

Professor Boland is a frequent contributor for media outlets including ABC, NBC, CNN, ESPN, the New York Times, and Sports Illustrated and is the author of two leading peer-reviewed studies on coaching contracts and legal issues in the NFL. He is the author of a forthcoming book on Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) to be published by Human Kinetics.
