Deklan Hurst (31), originally from Leicester, has won a Pride in the Job Quality Award from the National House Building Council (NHBC). These prestigious awards are known as the “Oscars of the housebuilding industry”.

In total, Barratt Developments’ site managers have won 98 Pride in the Job Quality Awards, which is more than any other housebuilder. This is the 18th year in a row that site managers from Barratt Developments have won more of these awards than any other builder, underlining the long-term commitment Barratt Homes has to building high quality properties.

Deklan, who was a Royal Marines Commando for seven years and joined Barratt Homes using the Armed Forces Transition Programme, has claimed his second Pride in the Job Quality Award. He has now been with Barratt Homes for more than five years.

Deklan said: “I feel extremely happy to win my second Pride in the Job Award, and it is great to know that the hard work put in by the team has been recognised.

“The team I have around me is phenomenal, and I wouldn’t have won this award without them. I would like to especially thank my assistant, Andrew Webb, who also came through the Armed Forces Transition Programme. I have no doubt he will achieve awards of his own in the future.

“My favourite part of my role is the early stages of the build and the technical element of construction. This year I had to explore building with timber frame, which is new to myself, so I am delighted to have won an award during such a challenge.

“It is a credit to Barratt Developments’ Armed Forces Transition Programme that I have won these awards. The transition has been really good, and I have recommended it to several of my friends already.”

In light of Deklan’s success in the Pride in the Job Awards, Barratt Homes is highlighting the benefits and career opportunities provided by its Armed Forces Transition Programme ahead of Armed Forces Day (Saturday 25th June).

The Pride in the Job Awards showcase the best site managers in the country who can demonstrate exceptional standards in building new communities, delivering the highest quality homes for their customers. Each site manager is judged on a range of key criteria including health and safety, their technical knowledge, customer service and attention to detail.

Every site manager who is registered with the NHBC is automatically entered into the awards, with just 450 winners being selected from over 11,000 entrants.

The awards also help to build quality standards across both developments and teams, with winning site managers invariably having an assistant site manager working with them. They in turn learn the high standards that are needed to win, increasing quality throughout the industry.

Amer Alkhalil, Managing Director at Barratt Homes Northampton, said: “We want to make our customers happy by building high quality homes for them. These awards recognise only the best new homes and well-run developments and we are very proud of our record having won more of these awards than any other housebuilder for 18 years in a row.

“Every customer who buys a home built by a site manager who has won a Pride in the Job Quality award can have confidence that their home is of the highest possible quality.”

These awards closely follow Barratt Developments being awarded five stars by its customers for satisfaction in the annual Home Builders Federation (HBF) new homes survey. To be rated five star means that more than 90% of its customers would recommend one of its homes to a friend, with the developer being the only major national housebuilder to be rated five star for 13 years in a row.
