“Goldfinger Revival” light show stunt marks 60th anniversary year of Goldfinger
Andermatt Swiss Alps AG marked the 60th anniversary year of Goldfinger on the final day of the Genuss Film Alpen festival in Andermatt over the weekend with ‘Goldfinger Revival’, a stunning light show stunt by visionary Swiss light artist Gerry Hofstetter.
With “Goldfinger Revival”, Hofstetter was able to recreate the iconic car chase film sequences on the Furka Pass where the original was filmed 60 years ago, with large-scale projections onto the snow walls and snow slopes of the alps.
‘60 years of Goldfinger’
A “60 Years of Goldfinger” soirée gala marked the final day of the inaugural festival in Andermatt with a screening of “Goldfinger” by Ian Fleming originally shot in 1964 in the Urseren Valley and surrounding areas.
Along with the screening of the film, a behind the scenes documentary of the making of the light show stunt titled “Goldfinger Revival” was also shown.
In “Goldfinger Revival”, Hofstetter paid tribute to the iconic chase scene featuring Sean Connery and Tania Mallet filmed on the winding roads of the Furka Pass in Andermatt. Guests were also able to view the original Aston Martin DB5 before attending an after-party at nearby luxury hotel The Chedi Andermatt until the early hours of Sunday morning.
Gerry Hofstetter
Hofstetter’s reinterpretation of the 5 minutes and 46 seconds car chase of arguably the most popular Bond film was an endeavour undertaken together with the people of Andermatt.
The production of the legendary scenes originally took place in July 1964 and lasted 8 days. At the time, the film crew was supported by locals, the canton of Uri, the Swiss army and members of the Swiss media who attended the filming. In April 2024, these same scenes were reshot over 8 days in the same setting and with the support of the same institutions.
Hofstetter was able to incorporate images of the original Aston Martin DB5 from the film and behind the scenes photography of the making of the film into his projections.
Further 60th Anniversary of Goldfinger Events
The 60th anniversary of Goldfinger will be marked throughout the year by numerous attractions; including an exhibition of the original Aston Martin DB5 on the Gütsch mountain (2344 metres above sea level) an exhibition at The Chedi Andermatt and overnight stays at the Hotel Bergidyll where the crew of Goldfinger, including Sean Connery, stayed during filming.
