myco commissions Decrypt Studios for Documentary on the Rise and Fall of FTX and Sam Bankman-Fried
Global ‘watch & earn’ web3 streaming platform myco, formerly MContent, has commissioned Decrypt Studios to produce a feature-length, must-see documentary on the rise and fall of FTX and its founder Sam Bankman-Fried.
The co-production between the two parties will utilise inside access and exclusive footage from Decrypt Media, including revealing interview footage of Sam Bankman-Fried as well as other key FTX executives, partners, and crypto industry veterans over the past ten years. The documentary will also include interviews with figures like Changpeng Zhao, also known as CZ, the founder of Binance. A single tweet from CZ led to the beginning of the collapse for FTX and its sister company Alameda, and ultimately to Bankman-Fried’s subsequent arrest and charge on December 12, 2022.
At the height of his wealth, Sam Bankman-Fried had a personal fortune of $24 billion and was ranked as the world’s second-wealthiest crypto billionaire by Forbes. FTX at its peak had a reported valuation of $32 billion. The documentary will chart the collapse of the company, its subsidiaries, and the wider effects this has had, and will continue to have, on the crypto industry.
Phil McKenzie, CCO of myco, says, “This mainstream web3 story, which has captured the global interest and zeitgeist, is a perfect fit for myco and our audience. It shows our ambition as a content business to back ambitious factual storytelling from top tier partners. Alanna was the first person I picked up the phone to when this story started to break. As web3 experts, and award-winning journalists, the Decrypt team are perfectly placed to tell this story with accuracy and access that no one else can.”
“There is no substitute for firsthand reporting and exclusive access to the individuals who are actually engaged in the events behind the headlines,” says Decrypt Studios founder Alanna Roazzi-Laforet. “While others are out there speculating about what happened, we can give the audience access to the people who were actually there. The writers and editors at Decrypt Media, coupled with our experienced Decrypt Studios production staff who have sold projects to Disney, NBC, and more, is a killer combination that puts us in a unique position to pull the curtain back on the FTX scandal.”
“We have seen crypto market cycles and meltdowns come and go, but the implosion of FTX has captured mainstream attention like nothing ever before in crypto,” says Daniel Roberts, Editor in Chief of Decrypt. “Most of all, people want to understand how this happened. Decrypt will tell this story in a riveting and lucid way for the mass audience.”
Production will begin in January, with delivery expected by Summer 2023.
