79th Golden Globes: William Hill predicts Belfast and The Power of the Dog to steal the show

UK bookmaker William Hill have today released their odds on the 79th Golden Globes Awards, ahead of the ceremony at The Beverly Hilton due to take place on Monday 10 Jan 2am GMT.

This year’s Golden Globes nominations were announced back in December by rapper Snoop Dogg, and Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) president Helen Hoehne.

Despite the star-studded line up in the film and TV nominations, this year’s events will look slightly different to last.

At the front of the pack for Best Director is Jane Campion at 4-9, for her genre-bending feature film The Power of the Dog, which breaks her 10 year filmmaking hiatus – the film is also second favourite to take Best Motion Picture Drama at 5-4.

Another favourite across categories is Kenneth Brannagh’s semi-autobiographical film Belfast, which is in the lead at 11-10 to take Best Motion Picture Drama, and 5-2 for Best Director. This is followed by Steven Spielberg (9-1) for West Side Story.

Leading the way for best drama film actor is Will Smith, for his title role in King Richard, the autobiographical drama which follows the coaching journey of professional tennis stars Serena and Venus Williams. The film, directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, is also 9-2 to win Best Picture.

Benedict Cumberbatch is second favourite in the same category, at 21-10 for his role in The Power of the Dog, followed by Denzel Washington, 11-1, in the A24 production of The Tragedy of Macbeth.

For best actress, Kristen Stewart (4-9) could be taking the crown for her portrayal of Lady Diana in Spencer, followed by a former queen herself Olivia Colman, for her role in The Lost Daughter at 11-2. Nicole Kidman is third favourite at 6-1 for Being the Ricardos.

It’s not just cinema which gets to shine at the Golden Globes, as there has been plenty of fantastic TV on our screens over the past year.

In the race for best TV drama series is HBO series Succession, as creator Jesse Armstrong’s dysfunctional dynasty is priced at 1-2 to win.

As one of Netflix’s most watched shows ever, proving to be a global sensation, it’s no surprise to see Squid Game as 6-4 in the same category. At 16-1 is Ryan Murphy’s ballroom culture period drama Pose, which has made history with the largest trans cast to date.

William Hill has odds across all major categories in this year’s Golden Globes, including Best Actor/Actress for Musical/Comedy, Best Original Song and Score, as well as Best TV Comedy or Musical.
