WHITE WEDDINGS LEAVE GUESTS IN THE RED AS BRITS ARE SET TO SPEND £1.5K ATTENDING NUPTIALS
With a bumper wedding season upon us thanks to a backlog of pandemic-postponed nuptials, new research1shows Brits are feeling the pinch as they are set to spend almost £1,500 each attending weddings this year.
The findings by the UK’s leading savings site, VoucherCodes.co.uk, looks at how much the nation is spending to attend friends’ and family’s big days. The data reveals that the average person is set to be welcomed to 1.3 weddings this year, spending on average £1,138 on all the bells and whistles for each individual event. This comes to a whopping total annual spend of £1,479 to watch their loved ones say their vows in holy matri-money, at a time when living costs are through the roof.
From drinks to babysitters, wedding-goers have an array of costs to account for as part of their guest duties. However, accommodation takes the top spot for the biggest expense, with the average person spending £139 for somewhere to crash after the festivities.
Coming in as the second most expensive item on guests’ shopping lists is their outfits at an average of £137, so it’s no wonder one in 10 people now resort to borrowing clothes from a friend to save money (10%). Looking sharp also takes precedence over hen, stag and sten parties, as people spend on average 10% more on their outfits compared to the bride or groom’s big night out (£123.68).
