DAME Andrea Jenkyns has said the Conservatives did not do enough to tackle the benefits culture when they were in government.

Speaking on GB News, she said: “I’ve got a concern. We’ve seen how Labour are punishing those who do the right thing.

“We’ve seen it with pensioners, we’ve seen it with those who want to send their children to private schools and we’re seeing it with the wealth creators.

“If Labour are driving out these wealth creators to leave Britain, how are they going to create the jobs? I think it’s going to get worse under Labour.

“It shouldn’t be a way of life that benefits culture. It should be a safety net. And so we’ve got to be radical with this. Unfortunately, I don’t think Labour will.

“We weren’t radical enough to get these people back to work, because let’s face it, if people are back to work it raises their self-esteem and their mental health is much better.

“Also in schools we should actually start teaching entrepreneurship to get people setting up their own business.

“We’ve had more apprenticeships now under the Conservative government than ever before. We hugely invest in that.

“I was the apprenticeships minister and I was quite proud of what the Government did in that but again we’ve got to break this benefits culture.”
