The school’s pupils were recruited by the local homebuilder back in September to be part of the bespoke scheme and the pupils recently enjoyed an award ceremony to celebrate completing the assignment.

Split into four quarters, the pupils learned about the construction process in great detail as they took park in a range of challenges at the school, located at Barratt Homes’ development, Warwick Gates.

The four tasks guided the pupils along the homebuilding procedures, covering planning and land, sales and marketing, technical and design and construction.

The children were visited by Julie Francis, Sales Adviser at Barratt Homes, who presented the pupils with their coveted Building Buddies award, in addition to individual trophies for the task winners – Charlotte, Leandi, Thomas, Ben and Jess.

Kim Abernethy, Head of School at Heathcote Primary School, said: “Our Year 4 and Year 5 children have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Building Buddies project and developing their understanding on the construction process of a building site.

“This was of great interest to the children who saw the second phase of our school completed last November and consistently see the community around them grow and develop. We look forward to working with Barratt Homes again in the future.”

Furthering the writing and artistic abilities of the pupils, the Building Buddies Award has enabled those taking part to name and promote their own development, whilst highlighting site safety and wildlife-friendly features considered at each Barratt Homes development.

Tanya Silk, Sales Director at Barratt Homes West Midlands, said: “We’re very proud of the children at Heathcote Primary School for their participation in our Building Buddies Award, and thank them for their fantastic entries.

“At Barratt Homes, we strive to work closely with the next generation of homebuilders and we hope to have encouraged the pupils at the school to consider a career in construction.”

Whilst Warwick Gates development has now completely sold out, Barratt Homes now has two, three and four bedroom properties available at its new Elborough Place development on Ashlawn Road in Rugby.
