Vernacare earns Bronze Medal for Sustainability from EcoVadis
Vernacare, a global healthcare manufacturer, has been recognised for their sustainable business practices with a Bronze Medal from EcoVadis.
The global company achieved an overall rating of 57 on their first submission, placing them in the top 69% of all businesses who completed the assessment. Over 100,000 businesses have completed the assessment so far.
EcoVadis is the global standard for rating operational sustainability commitments, practices, and performances, and is a key achievement for Vernacare on their strive for Net Zero by 2045.
The EcoVadis evaluation assesses themes including Environment, Labour, and Human Rights, and Ethics and Sustainable Procurement. The company’s work on raising employee awareness of sustainability, reducing internal waste through material reuse, recovering or repurposing, and the use of eco-friendly or bio-based input materials were highlighted as strengths during the assessment.
The company’s work on Net Zero reporting and employee health and safety risk assessments were also emphasised as strong points.
Simon Hogg, Group Innovations Director, said, “Vernacare has a long history of sustainable, ethical manufacturing and is passionate about continuing this legacy. We all work hard to minimise our impact on the environment, whilst maintaining our focus on infection prevention. To gain Bronze status on our first attempt is great recognition of how we already care, and this is a great starting point to strive for a better rating over the next year.”
This recognition builds on Vernacare being certified as a Bronze Level Carbon Literate Organisation from The Carbon Literacy Project, following a number of their team achieving Carbon Literate status, and recent industry award wins for Best Sustainable Infection Prevention Solutions.
EcoVadis’ sustainability ratings are based on international sustainability standards including the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) conventions, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards and the ISO 26000 standard. The ratings provide an evidence-based analysis on the performance and an actionable roadmap for continuous improvement.
