The Christie Trust – response team to walk 30 miles to raise money for Sergeant
Response police officers from Blackburn will be walking 30 miles to raise money for their colleague, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.
On Sunday 21 August, an entire response team (and a few detectives!) will be making the gruelling walk on their rest day from Darwen Tower, to Blackpool Tower (which totals just over 30 miles) to raise funds for The Christie Trust – a charity who supported their retired Sergeant in his time of need.
In his final year before retiring, Sgt Kev Jones was diagnosed with a rare neuroendocrine tumour that effects the bloodstream, rendering him incredibly poorly very quickly. The cancer itself is so rare, that statistically he had more chance of winning the EuroMillions than receiving his diagnosis. Kev agreed to a clinical trial which looked at new ways of attacking, and blocking new cancer cells from developing. His tumour has reduced by an incredible 88%.
The trial has been funded by donations and charity events, such as sponsored walks, cake baking and the usual avenues. So, on 21 August the team – and others from departments Kev worked with – will be walking and fundraising for The Christie Trust, to help and support cancer patients like Kev to receive this life changing support.
The team are asking for donations through the dedicated JustGiving page, where all money raised goes straight to The Christie Trust. Their goal of £1000 is currently at £205, with plenty of time left to reach their target.
