SupPlant and Smart Fertilizer Partner For New Groundbreaking App
Leading precision agricultural hardware-software companies Smart Fertilizer Software and SupPlant have partnered to create a market-changing, revolutionary precision platform designed for farmers across the globe. The platform, named SmartPlant, will offer farmers across the world access to data driven information designed to improve water and fertilization efficiency.
The app will be priced to target small holder farmers who were previously priced out of other technologies. It will provide advice to farmers based on collective data from both companies. Smart Fertilizer’s 10-year fertilization data collection, which has been accumulated manually, through global farmer partnerships and sensor inputs, has been integrated with SupPlant’s data and knowledge based on expertise in 31 crops grown in 14 countries representing over 1500 accumulative seasons.
Both Smart Fertilizer Software and SupPlant are world-leading platforms in the field of precision agriculture. A combined 20 years of experience and data collection between the two companies supported the understanding of the need for the trail-blazing new platform which will provide scope to empower thousands of farmers.
At the first stage, SmartPlant will focus on targeting farmers in low-income regions of Asia and Africa. Due to its competitive pricing, the app will be accessible to more farmers than any platform in the market. The user-friendly software will provide subscribers with data powered fertilization and irrigation advice, which is constantly updated. Functionalities of SmartPlant include field creation for selection of crops, field area, planting date, irrigation methods and auto geo-location. Alongside this, users will be able to utilize a ‘favorite fertilizers’ selection to create a preset list for ease of use as well as soil specs and nutrients status. Users will also receive periodic reports and irrigation and fertigation schedules.
According to estimations, there are 570 million farms worldwide. 12% of these farms are ‘small’ farms (less than 2 ha) and 75% of these farms are family owned. 80% of the world’s farms are situated in lower to middle income countries where Africa alone equates for 33 million smallholder farms. Currently, most of these smaller farms located in low-income countries have little access to up-to-date fertilization and irrigation data. Most farmers are still using family methods, which have been passed down generationally, and may therefore not be the economically or environmentally efficient.
Salvatore G. Verdoliva, Smart Fertilizer Software COO commented: “The development of SmartPlant is set to revolutionize and educate and empower smaller, low-income farms across the world. Together with SupPlant, we have collected ample fertilization and irrigation data which will now become accessible to thousands of farmers at an affordable cost. SmartPlant has the scope to transform the way in which farmers produce their crop, creating a more sustainable process which benefits both the farmer and the environment.”
Ori Ben-Ner, SupPlant CEO: “SupPlant’s and Smart Fertilizer’s capabilities to find a unique solution that for the first time is intended for SmartPlant has a vast potential with extraordinary implications on the economy of entire communities and food and water reserves in these countries.”
