Staying Active Reduces Major Pregnancy Complications
Found in around 42,000 pregnancies a year in the UK (six per cent), pre-eclampsia reduces the flow of blood through the placenta and can lead to stillbirth or even the death of the mother. Children born to mothers with pre-eclampsia are also at higher risk of developing high blood pressure and heart disease. 70 out of every 1,000 black women that give birth suffer from the condition.
Global guidelines recommend accumulating at least 150 min of moderate-intensity physical activity (where your heart rate goes up and you can talk but not sing) over 3 or more days of the week to derive clinically meaningful benefits.
However, pregnancy and motherhood can present challenges in terms of finding time and resources to prioritise one’s physical health.
That’s why we’re pleased to announce that Sport England, This Girl Can, and Our Parks have made significant investments to support the health & wellness of pre and post-natal women with the launch of brand-new FREE exercise courses on the Couch To Fitness platform. The first workouts of their kind to be endorsed by the Active Pregnancy Foundation.
