One of Europe’s leading price comparison sites idealo has joined forces with green search engine Ecosia, to help fight climate change with every online search consumer’s make.

Now official partners, idealo.co.uk will provide the search results for Ecosia shoppers. The collaboration between idealo and Ecosia is offering consumers an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional product searches, giving people peace of mind that they are improving their carbon footprint, and getting their products at the lowest price point.

Ecosia will plant three to five trees worldwide for every search, in their bid to support climate change. According to new data, in 2021 89% of Brits made at least one online purchase per month, which is an 8% increase compared to 2020. 35% admitted to purchasing a product online weekly, and a quarter (26%) started shopping more online during lockdown.

With a surge of online users and the ever-increasing presence of online shopping, there is a duty for companies to make shopping more sustainable.

Users of Ecosia’s new shopping search will receive an overview of the best prices for their chosen searches, of which the price comparison data is provided by idealo. Now with more than 145 million offers from over 30,000 online shops, idealo’s presence in the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy and Austria means it has an increased responsibility to promote greener shopping.

In fact, Berlin-based idealo has recently invested in revitalising the Lüttwisch moor in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, which will save at least 12,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide over the next few years. Many German moors have been drained in order to cultivate them, however this has had disastrous consequences for the environment as it means huge quantities of climate-damaging greenhouse gases have been emitted.

Now, new life has been given to the moor and in time the plan is to return it to its near-natural state. For more information on idealo’s involvement with the moor, and for future eco-projects, head to: https://www.idealo.co.uk/company/sustainability/moor

Katy Phillips, brand and communications manager at idealo commented: “With e-commerce starting to dominate the retail landscape, it is out duty to ensure that we are taking any steps possible to help improve the environment. The innovative nature of the industry means that we have to be forward-thinking with sustainability in mind, and we encourage shoppers to use platforms such as Ecosia to do their bit for the planet.”
