Sales of XL doggy products have almost doubled this year as Brits go bonkers for plus-size pooches – with ownership of large breeds booming, according to new data.

Latest Kennel Club ownership figures show the UK have gone barking mad for big dogs, with large breeds enjoying the biggest growth in popularity in recent months.

The giant Bernese Mountain Dog has experienced the biggest growth in popularity since 2023, with the English Setter placing third, the Kennel Club says.

And the trend towards plus-size pooches has also been played out in the purchasing habits of British dog owners, according to the sales experts at The Range.

Latest data from the home and leisure retailer shows sales of extra-large dog products such as bumper beds, huge harnesses, and even canine kettlebells have doubled in some cases.

According to The Range experts, the big dog boom represents a post-pandemic trend that has continued into 2024, with people across the country increasingly moving out of towns and cities in search of space.

As a result, the ability of Brits to own large dogs that require significant room to roam has increased exponentially.
Head Buyer, Blair Wheeler said: “As the nation’s passion for plus-size pooches accelerates, we’re happy to be on hand with anything and everything that owners might need for their beloved pets.
“Our extra-large doggy products are flying off the shelves in record numbers as our customers embrace big canines like the enormous Bernese Mountain Dog.

“From bumper beds to canine kettlebells, we’ve got everything your furry friend needs – whether that’s big or small.”
