SAGGY NATION: I’m a doctor and this is why you should never lose weight quickly!
As millions of Brits continue their ‘new year new you’ pledges and transform their bodies, a leading aesthetics Doctor reveals that as a nation we are set to become ‘saggy’ before our years, if we lose weight too quickly.
Most people when it comes to weight loss are keen to shed the pounds, and fast. However, an internationally acclaimed doctor and aesthetics expert Dr Gurnam Virdri reveals that if the weight is lost too quickly it will result in unavoidable sagging of the facial skin – which many don’t even consider.
Dr Gurnam, who is ambassador of UTH (www.uthaesthetics.co.uk) warned of the dangers, especially to those of a certain age:
“Losing weight of course brings huge health benefits, and as a trained GP I have to state that will always outweigh any potential visual negatives. However, every year we see a boom in ‘tweakments’ after about six weeks of the new year – as people notice their weight loss has brought some unexpected hang ups.
“If someone loses weight and swiftly there will a lot of sagging, it’s pretty unavoidable especially if you lose weight later in life. The sagging will be most noticeable in the jowl area as often weight loss occurs quickest in the face.”
Dr Virdi’s comments comes as Kantar reveals that 38% of UK adults say they are trying to lose weight as a rising number of Brits are showing concern for their health. Furthermore, there’s been an increase YOY of 153% on consumers searching for resolutions to treat ‘sagging skin.
Gurnam continued: “What I would suggest is to lose weight steadily and at the same time turn to an expert to help with your skin routine and long-term skincare plan. Not all individuals will need any aesthetics treatment as part of this plan, but they might opt too.
“Furthermore, the best advice I can also give is to not yo-yo diet where possible – this can create further problems for the skin as it stretches and contracts. There is a whole host of treatments perfect for anyone with sagging skin, from dermal filler to thread lifts – anything is possible, you just need to use the right medically trained practitioner and products with safe profiles.”
Dr Gurnam Virdi is part of the team behind the UTH products – which includes a dermal filler and soon to be launched face lift threads and aftercare cream.
