Responsibly getting rid of your waste this summer – how one innovative app will help
An innovative community app will enable its users to responsibly get rid of their waste this summer.
Tiptapp is an app where the users help each other with everyday logistical challenges – from waste collection, home delivery of second-hand items or transporting furniture across town.
“With the reopening of the UK upon us, much of the public will be set to get rid of their pandemic-induced excess waste,” David Hook, founder of TipTapp, said.
“Despite reopening, many councils are insisting that their residents pre-book visits to the tip in advance. It is not uncommon to have to book one to two weeks in advance and then slots may only be available during work hours. Also, many of the systems are not the most user friendly. Many people are caught unaware and have to take their waste back home
“Other than driving to the local tip to get rid of your waste, there are other responsible ways to eliminate waste this spring. The immediate response would be recycling. If you have enough time to create additional waste, you can allocate just a bit more time to sorting it effectively – not just separating for the local refuse collection.
“Still, more recycling banks have reopened and a way to securely get rid of some plastics, paper, metal and glass.”
But what you may consider as something wasteful may be what somebody else is looking for. With so many more DIY projects on the go and more people spending time in the garden during the lockdown and even more with the change in season, your used goods may be beneficial to another home. To connect with others locally, you can use Tiptapp’s dedicated app. You can also use it to donate household goods that you no longer need and at no cost. Perfect for the kind of items that are difficult to get rid of through eBay or Gumtree, the app is designed with a user rating system to avoid time wasters – unlike Freegle or Freecycle only those who really will pick the items up will apply.
David said: “In less of the time it takes to go through your excess goods, you could have a response from someone in your area in need and another user can come around to collect it from you – even better if you are without transport. The app makes sure that items are not fly-tipped by using technology – with time stamps and geo-positioning used to verify when the items are released at an approved recycling centre in order for the helper to receive the payment.”
The app also features:
Instant response and with items picked up the same day at a defined time slot.
The lowest cost service for recycling where advertisers set the price with no negotiation.
It is free to advertise and pay is only taken when the job is complete. Once a helper is selected the agreed amount is reserved on your card and if you are not happy it will never be debited.
Above and beyond being an Environment Agency-registered waste broker the app verifies that items are recycled properly.
Thanks to payment on completion through the app there is no need to meet the person helping.
For those that have spent so much time at home and rediscovered old DIY projects, had big sort-outs or have accumulated more than they are accustomed to, this app is the key to sorting it responsibly.
Already a success in its native Stockholm, Tiptapp is currently available in London after partnering with Islington Council and can be seen as another way to help each other within the community and do more for the environment through correct waste disposal.
