Emily Spencer (26) and Jessica Fletcher (23) have been recruited as part of the ASPIRE Programme, which will allow them to experience many different areas of the industry.
As part of the programme, Emily and Jessica are both completing a series of eight-week placements in various aspects of the business, including Land and Planning, Technical, Commercial and Construction.
Common degree backgrounds for ASPIRE graduates include Planning and Property Development, Geography and Business Studies.
Emily, from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, said: “I chose to work for Barratt and David Wilson Homes because of its unparalleled reputation within the housebuilding industry and its award-winning ASPIRE Graduate Scheme.
“The company’s priorities place importance on customer care and investing in their employees. Barratt and David Wilson Homes not only create great places to live, but set a precedent as leaders in the construction industry, championing sustainability. It’s a company I am proud to be working for.
“My favourite part of the job is that no day is the same. I am faced with new and exciting challenges every day which help develop my skills and professional repertoire.”
Currently working as a Construction Graduate at Barratt Homes’ development, King’s Meadow in Melton Mowbray, is Jessica. She was training to be an architect before joining the ASPIRE Programme.
Jessica, from Leicester, added: “Barratt and David Wilson Homes is an employer that supports progression within the construction sector. It’s a housebuilding industry leader, and I wanted to be within that.
“Every day is different for me. The bonus of graduate rotations on the ASPIRE programme is that, for your first year, you spend two months in each department of the business.
“The second year is in your chosen discipline, which in my case is construction.
“For me, being a woman in construction has been great, as I hadn’t physically stepped foot on a building site until I had started with Barratt and David Wilson Homes.
“The key is communication. I think I’ve found that if you treat people how you want to be treated, speak to people how you want to be spoken to, it doesn’t matter who you are in this industry.”
Mark Cotes, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Midlands, said: “We’re delighted to have both Jessica and Emily on the team completing our ASPIRE programme, and look forward to seeing them progress their careers with us.
“The programme is an excellent way for graduates of any degree to work towards a career with an award-winning housebuilder, while getting on-the-job training.
“There are a number of career opportunities available at Barratt and David Wilson Homes, and now is a fantastic time to be joining the company.”
