MEET THE ACTRESS WHO MADE HER OWN OPPORTUNITIES AND TOOK A STAND IN 2020
An actress has spoken of how she made her own opportunities after film projects ground to a halt during the pandemic, and how she wants to make sure the #MeToo movement is not forgotten now the world’s focus has shifted to Covid-19.
Rising star Fancy Alexandersson, based in London, did not let the coronavirus crisis stop her burgeoning acting career which is simultaneously a mission to stand up for women everywhere.
When the pandemic thwarted the theatrical release of her short film Fallen Dream and also stopped film shoots across the industry, Fancy decided to create her own projects.
She has just completed filming the pilot episode for the series Me, Myself & Marilyn, portraying a Marilyn Monroe impersonator with split personality disorder, and is due to appear in her debut feature film My Drowning Man, a tragic romantic drama, while the upcoming thriller Killa Kween is in development. Each production tells a relevant and important story of womanhood.
Fancy’s starring role in the Erica Bergsmeds-directed Fallen Dream saw her on screen alongside Laura Whitmore and Kimberly Wyatt, formerly of the Pussycat Dolls, and her mesmerising performance earned her much praise from critics and a string of awards for best actress, with prizes for best film and best filmmaker also amongst the accolades.
“Fallen Dream is a project I funded, created and starred in,” Fancy said, “It’s an all-female project that was ready last year but was delayed due to Covid-19. Just as we were prepped to release the film, suddenly the pandemic ensured that theatres closed, and all the momentum was lost for promoting it. With all these venues closed, we had no way to premiere the film.

“It was disappointing as it would’ve opened more doors for me, but the whole industry was suddenly doing everything it could to simply survive. On top of this, the media was so focused on the same thing there was no way to find avenues for promotion.”
Fancy was inspired to create the project after her own #MeToo experiences, feeling as though the focus on women’s rights and the battle to stop sexual harassment in the entertainment industry had been lost during the lockdown.
She said: “I feel as though #MeToo had its moment but people were no longer listening to the message. It’s still an important topic and issue that has affected me throughout my life. I feel like the pandemic has caused a sidetrack when it comes to this.”
“With my own projects, I want to explore how I can convey the pain and the hurt that women experience and turn that into positive female empowerment. With Fallen Dream and my upcoming work I want to show things aren’t black and white and people need to look into themselves and that their actions have an effect on others, yet other’s actions don’t have to affect you.”

The success of Fancy’s various projects has led to her working with Abel Ferrara, the American director known for provocative and often controversial movies such as King of New York, Bad Lieutenant, Siberia and more.
With so many projects on the go, Fancy will be at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival to screen Fallen Dream as well as promoting the Me, Myself & Marilyn, My Drowning Man and Killa Kween.
Before pivoting into acting full time, Fancy was a successful model and has had a foot in the entertainment industry since her teenage years, with a background in dance and stage performance. This is a path she has once again explored during the pandemic, and she is due to release two singles this summer.
