The Edmund Trust, a charity that provides care and support to people with learning disabilities in the east of England, has received a £1,500 donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes to assist with its work.

The donation will help fund an annual awards evening to say thank you to the charity’s employees, whose tireless work throughout the year often goes overlooked, yet plays a vital part to so many lives.

The donation came as part of the Barratt Developments Plc Charitable Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.

The charity began over 75 years ago when a group of Cambridge parents decided to do something about the lack of community care for people with learning disabilities and their families in the area.
John Ellis, Chief Executive at The Edmund Trust, said: “We were absolutely delighted to hear we had been chosen to receive a donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes. The work our staff do on a daily basis means the world to so many and this donation means we can give them the thank you they deserve.

“We have always been a family led charity. Most of our staff have family members with learning disabilities and as such our heart and passion are in everything we do.”

Since 1947, The Edmund Trust has provided a person-centred approach to empower people with learning disabilities. As of today, the charity provides supported living, respite services, residential services and community support to over 200 people.
John continued: “Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Community Fund Scheme is fantastic. It’s great to see a big company like Barratt and David Wilson Homes supporting local charities such as ours.

“We would like to give our most sincere thank you to Barratt and David Wilson Homes for supporting us here at The Edmund Trust. We love what we do and donations such as this one enables us to do the things we aren’t funded for like thanking our employees with an awards evening.”

Daniel Evans, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Cambridgeshire, said: “As a leading housebuilder we strive to support the communities in and around the areas in which we build, and we are delighted to be able to offer The Edmund Trust a donation to support the fantastic work it does.”
