LadBaby 2-9 favourites to break all-time chart record
Bookmaker William Hill today made LadBaby 2-9 favourites to secure the 70th Christmas Number One, and with it a place in chart music history.
YouTube stars Mark and Roxanne Hoyle, who have raised money for the Trussell Trust food bank charity with their sausage roll-themed singles since 2018, could overtake the Spice Girls and The Beatles, as the act with the most consecutive Christmas Number Ones.
The track titled, Sausage Rolls For Everyone, is a cheeky version of fellow Christmas Number One contender Merry Christmas, by Messrs Sheeran and John. Hit maker Sheeran and music icon Sir Elton, appear alongside the Hoyles in an announcement video posted on social media this morning, with the new track now available to pre-order.
“So who is ready to try and make history, for charity, with a sausage roll,” Mark Hoyle says in the clip, with Sheeran proudly declaring; “100% of the song’s profits will go to the Trussell Trust’s food bank charity.”
The Beatles had three in a row in the 1960s, and the Spice Girls achieved the same feat in the 90s, with LadBaby matching the record over the past three years.
Chart superstar Sheeran had already teamed up with friend, mentor and all-round music icon Sir Elton John, to create three new Christmas songs, the first of which is called Merry Christmas. The pair’s charity video parodies a number of other famous festive hits, while a whole host of celebrities have been persuaded to make guest appearances in the festive track, priced as 12-5 second favourite.
UK comedic duo Adam Rowe and Dan Nightingale have fast been gathering popularity with their podcast Have A Word Pod, and have now launched their bid with new single – Laura’s Gone. The song, which takes its title from a running gag on the show, in which Rowe, Nightingale and a pantheon of comedian guests suggest how they’d react to the listeners’ relationship dilemmas, is 16-1 third favourite.
After the rip-roaring success of her fourth studio album, 30, and an emotional An Audience With, powerhouse songstress Adele currently has three songs on track for a number one spot, and is a 20-1 chance with William Hill.
Rising Indie band from Wigan, The Lathums, had chart success with the release of their debut album How Beautiful Life Can Be earlier this year. As their credentials continue to rise and more gigs are booked, William Hill makes the four-piece band a 33-1 shot to keep up the momentum and get their anti-festive tune Krampus to the top of the tree?
Another 33-1 shout comes in the form of perennial presence in the Christmas chart shake-up, Mariah Carey, who reached number one for the first time last year. However, her brief stay at the top of the tree was ended by LadBaby. The Christmas Queen is pretty much guaranteed a top five spot.
LadBaby – 2-9
Elton John & Ed Sheeran – 12-5
Have A Word Pod – 16-1
Adele – 20-1
The Lathums – 33-1
Mariah Carey – 33-1
