Huge investment in arts and creative industry education on show as Coventry University officially opens building named after electronic music icon Delia Derbyshire

Music icon Delia Derbyshire’s legacy will live on in her home city as Coventry University officially opens its building named in her honour.
Delia was best known for her ground-breaking work with the BBC’s Radiophonic Workshop and her realisation of the famous Doctor Who theme music, and continues to be revered as a pioneer in both popular electronic and experimental music scenes for bringing creativity, innovation and technology together in her work. The building – home to the university’s College of the Arts and Society – features game-changing technology in what is the biggest investment in arts and creative industry education in the Midlands for years.

The building’s formal opening will take place on Thursday, 2 May, and the launch event is a collaboration with Deliaphonic, a local organisation who celebrate this esteemed Coventry woman’s life,work and legacy; the event comes just three days before what would be Delia’s 87th birthday.
Among the guests at the event will be BBC Radio 6 DJ Stuart Maconie who will host a panel event and a talk with Cosey Fanni Tutti, whose new book explores the life of Delia Derbyshire.
