West Midlands housebuilder Barratt and David Wilson Homes has contributed £1,000 to Birmingham Mind to aid its helpline and mentoring programme.
The donation from the leading developer will support the mental health charity’s services, which has taken nearly 12,000 calls so far this year, in addition to an approximate 90 people contacting their web chat service each week.

Birmingham Mind’s newly-established Peer Mentor scheme will also benefit from the funding. The initiative promotes and invites individuals with experience of mental health struggles to provide a supporting role to the charity’s current service users, through an in-depth training and mentoring programme.

Helen Wadley, CEO at Birmingham Mind, said: “As a local charity, we rely heavily on fundraised and donated income to provide the services that are needed in our community.

“The helpline was a service we recognised to be a need in our city, before the pandemic had even commenced, however we could not have mobilised this new service, sourcing premises, staff and equipment without the money we receive from fundraised income.

“We can’t thank Barratt and David Wilson Homes enough for the donation. The support will make such a difference to the hundreds of individuals who contact our helpline each month, and will assist us in supporting our helpline for those in the Greater Birmingham area who seek assistance on a whole range of mental health issues.”

Birmingham Mind is a mental health charity, which has operated for the last 60 years to provide mental health support and services to the residents of Birmingham.

The charity works in active partnership with the NHS and other local organisations to deliver mental health services and to challenge the stigma that surrounds mental health.

Birmingham Mind’s services help to support people in various ways such as supported housing, residential care, wellbeing hubs and crisis intervention, through its Talking Space service.

The charity provides high quality services in a variety of settings, providing person-centred support to enable people to take better control of their lives.

Dominic Harman, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: “Mental health is such an important aspect of our everyday life and it’s vital that we support charities and community groups in their efforts to support those in need.

“We’re proud to support Birmingham Mind because the charity’s determination to help people in the West Midlands with their mental health struggles is admirable.”
