Staycationers in search of the perfect UK sunset have been told exactly where to head to this summer thanks to new research.
Travel experts from LeaseCar.uk have identified the ten top spots for admiring stunning sunsets across Britain.
From the bottom of England at Land’s End, to the leafy suburbs of north London, across to Wales, Northern Ireland and up to Scotland, the researchers identified the most stunning sunset spots for visitors.
All locations are accessible by car, allowing for easy and exquisite views of the sunset in both rural and urban locations.
A spokesperson for LeaseCar.uk said: “Tourists don’t have to head off to exotic locations to catch a truly beautiful sunset. There are many stunning spots right here in the UK where the sight of the sun setting will take your breath away.
“We researched the places in Britain where you’re most likely to see an amazing sunset without ever having to board a plane.”
Researchers at LeaseCar.uk rated these locations the best sunset spots in the UK:
1. Land’s End, Cornwall
Land’s End is the most south-westerly point in the UK, so it is a fitting spot to watch the sunset at the end point of the country. Land’s End hosts dramatic sunsets across its rocky cliff face and rugged scenery. Park just outside of the cliff top coastal path and stroll across the path for an evening walk, where you can try and spot dolphins and seals down below. Visitors can watch the sunset at the coastal hotspot with its beautiful panoramic views.
2. Tenby, Pembrokeshire, Wales
The small coastal town of Tenby hosts picture-postcard images across its three beaches. The flat conditions make driving to the town easy, and a walk around Tenby towards the coast gives the perfect opportunity for sunset watching. Voted one of the top seaside towns in Wales, watching the sunset on the beach, or overlooking the harbour, is a highly recommended experience.
3. Sandbanks, Dorset
The Sandbanks neighbourhood has become known for exclusive living and its award-winning ‘Blue Flag’ beach. A small peninsula across the Poole Harbour, Sandbanks beach offers wonderfully soft sands and a stunning wide landscape to watch the sunset. 4. i360, Brighton
Named the place to witness the best views of Brighton, going up the 162m observation tower is a must when catching the sunset. Located on the seafront, visitors can look over the town, and out to sea, and observe these breath-taking views. 5. Primrose Hill, London
This Grade II listed public park in Camden is the highest point in the area, thus an exemplary spot to showcase the sunset across the capital. Primrose Hill gives a stunning view of central London, and visitors can spot landmarks across London’s skyline whilst sat at the top. Often named the go-to spot for sunset watching in London, the park is an Instagram-worthy location for the evening skies.
6. Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh
Arthur’s Seat is an ancient volcano overlooking the Scottish capital. Take a drive up and around Arthur’s Seat, or choose the well-trodden path, will lend itself to a gorgeous 360 degree view of Edinburgh. The 251m hill is the ideal spot for watching the sunset, followed by a short trip back to the famed Edinburgh Royal Mile in the city.
7. Exmouth, Devon
As one of Devon’s oldest seaside towns, Exmouth is part of the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, and hosts a lively town with a water sport-centred sandy beach. Head to the beach for sunset, or if visitors prefer a quieter evening spot, Exmouth’s harbour provides stunning sunset views, too. 8. Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol
Named one of Bristol’s most recognisable landmarks, Clifton Suspension Bridge has a strong industrial history, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Visitors can watch the sunset as they pass across the Avon Gorge. Across the Bridge it is a quick drive into Bristol City Centre with a small toll fare fee for Bridge maintenance. A spectacular and unique setting to watch the sunset, whilst observing the history of the Bristol structure.
9. Kirkstone Pass, Lake District, Cumbria
The Kirkstone Pass is the highest mountain pass across the remarkably impressive Lake District which can be accessed by road. Kirkstone Pass is a perfect spot for sunset watching, given its ease of accessibility by car, combined with its phenomenal views of the iconic Lake District.
