Government Apprenticeship Incentive Scheme Extended & Doubled

The Government Apprenticeship Incentive Scheme has been doubled for taking on new apprentices, employers can now receive more funding for new hires of any age that start an apprenticeship.

The benefit has been raised to £3,000 per hire from 1st April 2021 to 30th September 2021, this is on top of the £1,000 payment already provided for new apprentices aged 16 to 18 and those under 25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan, meaning that employers could receive up to £4,000.

Apprentice Eligibility; There will be no limit on the number of incentive payments that an employer can claim for apprentices eligible to receive funding, provided each apprentice meets the criteria:

  • New employee – The apprentice must have a contract of employment and has not been employed by the organisation within the last six months before the contractual start date.
