EXi exercise prescription app selected by DigitalHealth.London Accelerator

EXi overview

“This year has been a defining moment for digital health as it has been at the forefront of the COVID-19 response and will continue to be part of our country’s recovery in the months and years ahead,” says Jenny Thomas, Programme Director, DigitalHealth.London. “EXi joins 19 other SMEs all of whom are ones to watch. We look forward to working with them and playing our part in supporting the NHS and social care through digital transformation.”

EXi is the first app of its kind to prescribe exercise for multiple chronic conditions. Approved by the NHS and included in the NHS Apps Library, it provides an automated yet personalised exercise prescription, based on the latest scientific evidence for safety and effectiveness to those suffering from 23 long-term conditions. By analysing health, current fitness level, disease status and resting heart rate before producing a personalised physical activity plan, EXi gradually and safely helps increase activity levels and improve health.

DigitalHealth.London Accelerator aims to speed up the adoption of technology in London’s NHS, relieving high pressure on services and empowering patients to manage their health. For every £1 spent on the Accelerator programme it is estimated £14.50 is saved for the NHS*. It works with up to 20 high potential SMEs over a 12-month period, giving bespoke support and advice, a programme of expert-led workshops and events and brokering meaningful connections between innovators and NHS organisations with specific challenges.

“We are excited and honoured to have been selected for the DigitalHealth.London Accelerator programme and feel absolutely ready to take on board its advice, expertise and guidance,” says Carron Manning, Chief Executive of EXi. “Our chief aim is to see the prescription of personalised exercise programmes for patients become the norm as the advantages of making this happen are immeasurable,” she says. “We are already making headway in London among NHS trusts and GPs and I believe the support from the accelerator programme will speed our progress and bring new ideas and opportunities to light.

“Access to healthcare for people with long term conditions has never been more important as now with Covid-19 threatening our nation’s health and putting immense pressure on the NHS,” says Carron. “I truly believe EXi has a role to play by giving people access to a digital personalised exercise prescription without needing to see their GP at a time when appointments and NHS resources are at a premium.”
