Double Vision – new beer brewed to help blind people in the East Midlands

In partnership with the Seeing Dogs Alliance, The Brunswick Brewing Company is creating a bespoke beer which will raise much-needed funds for the charity. The Double Vision recipe has been specially created and will launch at Brunswick’s 36th Annual Beer Festival which takes place 4-8 October.

Double Vision, which will be sold at The Brunswick Inn and The Dead Poets Inn in Holbrook, will raise funds for the Seeing Dogs Alliance with 10p from every pint going straight to the charity to help train dogs. The beer will also be available for pubs in the East Midlands region to stock from October this year.

The bespoke brew is being created to help the Seeing Dogs Alliance assist blind and partially sighted people amid a national shortage of assistance dogs. The campaign will support the charity in its work which focuses solely on training seeing dogs and will help to reduce the waiting list for trained seeing dogs. The Brunswick Brewing Company also uses the byproducts from the brewing process to make healthy dog treats.

More than two million people are estimated to be living with sight loss in the UK, and every day 250 people start to lose their sight. This is equivalent to one person every six minutes. Current shortages of dogs and dog trainers are leaving blind people waiting for up to two years for a fully trained seeing dog to enter service; leaving thousands without the independence, confidence, and companionship an assistance dog brings.

It costs approximately £20,000 and takes 12 months to train a fully qualified seeing dog. The Seeing Dogs Alliance offers a personalised service for its blind clients, ensuring dogs and their new owners train together and build a vital working relationship. The proceeds from Double Vision will go towards helping to train more seeing dogs for blind people in the East Midlands.
