CREATIVE PUPILS LEAD THE WAY TO WITNEY’S WILDLIFE

Two imaginative school pupils have won a competition to design an entrance sign for a nature trail at a David Wilson Homes community in Oxfordshire.

Created to point people in the right direction, the artistic sign was designed by Sully and Fletcher, Year 5 pupils at Witney Community Primary School, and now takes pride of place at the Kingfisher Meadows development in Witney.

As a leading housebuilder, David Wilson Homes strives to give nature a home and the nature trail is set to incorporate a range of features once complete.

At the entrance of the footpath is Sully and Fletcher’s sign, which was produced as part of a collaborative effort by the competition winners. It features creative drawings of a kingfisher, voles, bats and bees, alongside the message: ‘Welcome to the Kingfisher Meadows Nature Trail.’

Mark Peacey, Headteacher at Witney Community Primary School, said: “Art is a subject we are passionate about – we are fortunate enough to have an art studio and a wonderfully talented artist in residence. The children really enjoyed working on this project and we are very proud of Sully and Fletcher.”

David Wilson Homes has partnered with the RSPB since 2014 to develop methods of successfully integrating nature into developments that have been given planning permission, and to demonstrate to the rest of the industry, and to homeowners, what is achievable.

As part of the competition to design a sign for the nature trail, Sully and Fletcher were each gifted a £20 Amazon voucher from David Wilson Homes, whilst having their sign proudly displayed at Kingfisher Meadows for residents and visitors to view.

Dominic Harman, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: “We’re proud to have incorporated a nature trail into our Kingfisher Meadows development as part of our efforts to give the local wildlife a home.

“We received some fantastic entries for our competition with Witney Community Primary School, but Sully and Fletcher’s design stood out and we’d like to thank them for directing our residents towards the trail.”

Located on Burford Road, on the edge of the Cotswolds, Kingfisher Meadows is home to green open space, natural landscaping and a play area for the benefit of the families at the established community.

Only 13 homes remain at the development before it is officially sold out, and there is currently a selection of two to five bedroom properties available.
