Breast Friends Northamptonshire, a charity which supports women diagnosed with breast cancer, has received a £1,500 donation from leading homebuilder David Wilson Homes to assist with its work.

The donation came as part of the Barratt Developments Plc Charitable Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.

The contribution from the Northampton based homebuilder will help Breast Friends Northamptonshire continue to support nearly 400 women across the region through treatment bags to those undergoing surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The donation will also directly fund services such as pilates classes to aid women who are recovering after surgery.

Leonie Heard, Founder of Breast Friends Northamptonshire, said: “We are incredibly thankful and humbled to have been chosen to receive this donation. One in seven women are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lives, and donations like this one means we can support as many of them as we can.

“We rely on the generosity, support and commitment of our community, so to see a company like David Wilson Homes recognise the work we do means the world to us. We appreciate that our services are valued by our community and welcome this generosity with a humble heart.

“The monthly Community Fund scheme is a super opportunity for David Wilson Homes to support local charities. From everyone at Breast Friends Northamptonshire we would like to offer David Wilson Homes and its staff a huge heartfelt thank you.”

Ben Kalus, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes South Midlands, said: “As a leading housebuilder we strive to support the communities in and around the areas in which we build, and we are delighted to be able to offer Breast Friends Northamptonshire a donation to support the fantastic work it does.

“Being diagnosed with cancer is a harrowing thing for anyone to go through, so it is heart-warming to see that there are amazing charities like Breast Friends Northamptonshire to support people on their journey.”
