CAMBRIDGESHIRE PUPILS LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER AT STORYTELLING EVENT

In celebration of World Book Day (2nd March), stories were brought to life for pupils at Wintringham Primary Academy thanks to a storytelling event organised by Barratt and David Wilson Homes.

The school is based near Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Wintringham development, and the event is another part of the developer’s outreach to the local community.

The pupils were invited to the storytelling session for a morning of magical storytelling, hosted by experienced storyteller Mark Fraser, who created a tailored experience for classes in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

Mark is a traditional storyteller who brings stories to life at many events, schools, museums and heritage sites across a wide range of counties.

Mark said: “It was a delight to work with this school to celebrate World Book Day. Traditional storytelling can give so much to people of all ages, as well as children and these days it’s more important than ever.

“Thank you to Barratt and David Wilson Homes for providing this opportunity, and to the school for being so cooperative.”

World Book Day is celebrated to inspire reading among children. Its mission is to promote reading for pleasure and education, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own.
The global event aims to promote reading and sharing of stories among children of all ages.
Tracy Bryden, Executive Head Teacher at Wintringham Primary Academy, said: “The children enjoyed the storytelling session arranged for them by Barratt and David Wilson Homes. The storyteller, Mark, adapted the stories for all age groups and the children were thoroughly engaged.”

The children experienced first-hand how oral storytelling has allowed stories to survive and evolve over thousands of years, and across continents.

Alison Raine, Sales Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Northampton, said: “It was a pleasure to invite pupils from Wintringham Primary Academy to join us for a storytelling morning and Mark’s stories really enchanted the children which was great to see.

“Events such as these give us the opportunity to make a difference in the communities in which we build and encourage skills such as reading, writing, listening and creativity.”
