There hasn’t been much in the way of good news for UK businesses lately but one company is bucking the trend.

Bluebasil Brownies, based in Warwickshire, has been going from strength to strength thanks to the popularity of its online gift boxes.

With people across the UK isolated from family members during the first lockdown, posting treats became a popular way to celebrate special occasions and cheer up loved ones.

The personal service and handmade touch offered by Bluebasil helped connect again. Filled with delicious chocolate brownies, their gift boxes quickly became one of the rare success stories of 2020.

As with many other businesses, the Covid-19 outbreak was a huge shock to Bluebasil, forcing the company to re- evaluate all parts of the business. Taking a tough decision, it chose not to reopen the coffee shop in Leamington Spa and to refocus all efforts into the brownie gift boxes instead.

The company made the bold move of relocating to larger premises in Warwick at the end of 2020. The increased space has allowed Bluebasil to expand further, baking even more brownies and other cakes, sending out even more gift boxes and fulfilling larger corporate and wholesale orders.

Nikki Taylor, the founder of the business, explains how the company has been able to make the most of a tough situation. She said: “2020 was a year no one could have anticipated and we had to adapt our business in this new Covid-19 world very quickly. In July last year we decided to close our coffee bar and shop in Leamington Spa in order to focus 100% on our bakery.

“We are delighted to have moved our chocolate brownie bakery to a brand new, bigger home in the historic town of Warwick to allow us to grow and expand our business.”

In just 10 years since its arrival, Bluebasil has grown into a nationwide favourite, winning a succession of Great Taste Awards, featuring in Vogue magazine, and even delivering brownies to Number 10 Downing Street.

In these uncertain times, the Bluebasil team know that receiving a box of brownies can make a huge difference to someone’s day. On top of donating some boxes to well-deserved NHS and care home teams, the staff at Bluebasil made it their mission to carry on, working tirelessly to ensure that the UK’s birthdays, anniversaries and new babies didn’t go uncelebrated.
