BIRMINGHAM HOMELESS CHARITY RECEIVES TOILETRY PACKS FROM HOMEBUILDER TO SUPPORT LOCAL PEOPLE

A homelessness charity in Birmingham has received a number of essential hygiene packs to distribute to local people following a donation from developer Barratt Homes.

Let’s Feed Brum was established in 2016, and is a volunteer-led organisation that provides food, drink, essential supplies, signposting support and friendship to those on the streets of Birmingham. The charity is based close to the developer’s B5 Central development on Sherlock Street.

The organisation started with between 15 and 20 volunteers that would make sandwiches at home and serve tea and coffee, and has since expanded to over 100 volunteers that help the homeless in a number of ways. This includes evening walkabouts every night of the week across the city centre; a weekly breakfast club on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Birmingham Cathedral; monthly clothing events at local refuges and shelters; daily deliveries of supplies to over 40 hostels, shelters, and accommodation providers; and much more.

Ben Rafiqi, Co-Founder of Let’s Feed Brum, said: “The work that we do is crucial, but we couldn’t do it without the help of companies and individuals who share our passion for helping those that need it most.

“As a volunteer led organisation, we rely solely on donations. The toiletry packs from Barratt Homes will go directly to the people of Birmingham. We are truly grateful that they thought of Let’s Feed Brum, and 93 people in need will be provided with their own pack of hygiene essentials thanks to this donation.”

This is the second time that Barratt Homes has partnered with Let’s Feed Brum, with B5 Central’s Sales Advisers lending a hand to volunteers at the charity’s last Christmas Meal organised at St. George’s Community Hub in December 2019.

Ben added: “The Barratt Homes team volunteered with us for our last Christmas Meal, and got stuck right in to serve hot meals and hand out presents to our friends on the street. Receiving this donation was an added bonus, not least as we always need toiletries, so this was a big help!”

Dominic Harman, Managing Director of Barratt Homes Mercia, said: “We were delighted to work with Let’s Feed Brum again following their Christmas Meal in 2019, and it was great to hear of how many people will benefit from the donation of hygiene essentials.

“The organisation provides vital supplies and support to those on the streets of Birmingham, and as the UK’s leading housebuilder it is very important that we do as much as we can to help organisations and individuals in the local community.”
