To celebrate National Walking Month (May), Bedfordshire housebuilder Barratt and David Wilson Homes has collated a list of walks around it’s Willow Grove development in Wixams.

As the nights are getting lighter and the weather is getting warmer, there is no better time to put those trainers on and get walking, and there’s no better place to do it than Wixams.

The top walks around Willow Grove are:

Stewartby Lake Loop

This scenic walk, less than six miles from the development, takes you around one of Bedford’s most idyllic features, Stewartby Lake, an expansive lake surrounded by greenery and nature. This walk is just over five miles and walkers will pass some picturesque views.

Fenlake Meadows

Fenlake Meadows, under five miles from the Willow Grove, is a nature reserve located in the Kingsbrook area of Bedford. It is unlikely you will encounter many other people as the walking paths are secluded though you may catch a glance of a number of local bird species that live nearby. This walk is considered to be a moderately challenging route with some path prone to be waterlogged during high rainfall.
Houghton House
Seven miles from the development, residents can take a short loop around the historic grounds of Houghton House, perfect for even the most inexperienced rambler being just short of four miles. All paths are easily accessible and now would be the perfect time to see the wonderful floral fields in bloom.
On top of the many walks just a stone’s throw away from the development, residents at Willow Grove can take advantage of the countryside right on their doorstep. The development is surrounded by a beautiful country park and set by a picturesque lake.
