Auto Trader Are Searching The Country For A Drive-Thru Reviewer

The UK’s largest automotive platform Auto Trader is offering one lucky person the chance to get paid to eat and rate their favourite tasty Drive-Thru takeouts.

With global web searches up +100% year-on-year for “get food smell out of car”, it seems motorists are juggling their love of naughty-but-nice drive-thru meals with their desire to keep their car’s interior pristine and smelling fresh. As such, this summer Auto Trader is looking for a researcher to find out which dine-out dishes make the least amount of mess and smell in our cars.

To sweeten the deal even further, the reviewer will get £300 to cover the costs of their meals and fuel as they embark on this exciting food journey.

The successful Drive-Thru Reviewer will be tasked with exploring and ranking five drive-thru meals within their local area. But their mission goes beyond tasting: the reviewer will be compensated £300 to evaluate everything from the quality of the packaging to how messy the food is and how long the scent lingers in their car after that final delicious bite.

To apply to be Auto Trader’s Drive-Thru Reviewer applicants will need a full UK driving license, be 18 or over and have access to a car that can be used to access drive-thrus.

The responsibilities include:

Visiting your area’s drive-thurs
Rating and reviewing a meal from five different drive-thrus, based on the mess and smell it leaves in the car
Share your reviews, with images of your meals
Auto Trader will compensate you £300 to cover the costs of fuel, food and time

Top Tips for Removing Food Smells From Your Car

While the winner of the Drive-Thru Reviewer will unveil the drive-thru dishes that have the least amount of smell and mess, the fact remains that some delicious bites can leave behind a stronger scent in our cars than others.

Auto Trader’s experts have shared their essential advice on how to keep your vehicle smelling as fresh as possible:

Thorough vacuuming: Reach right under car seats and all the nooks and crannies that are often forgotten about for stray crumbs. A proper vacuum can really freshen up a car’s smell.
Air it out: Open your windows and let fresh air circulate, if the weather allows for it.
Fresher fabrics: If your car has fabric seats, use a fabric cleaner to tackle lingering odours, a gentle wipe down can work wonders. Keep an extra bottle on the back seat for freshening up after a meal on wheels.
Try baking soda: If there’s a particularly tough food stain you can’t wipe from your fabric or vinyl seats and the scent still lingers, try sprinkling baking soda on it, letting it sit for a few hours, then vacuum.
Call in the pros: If you’re selling or returning a leased car, invest in professional steam clean to remove deeply ingrained odours, so that your car not only smells but also looks impeccable.
Erin Baker, Editorial Director at Auto Trader, comments: “We know that grabbing a quick bite while on the road is a very common occurrence for lots of drivers. Unfortunately, with delicious meals come not-so-delicious odours, crumbs and stains. With most of us spending a portion of our days driving, it makes it all the more important that our cars are both comfortable and smell good, which is why we’ve launched this exciting Drive-Thru Reviewer prize! We hope our cleaning tips and the ultimate fast-food rankings revealed by our lucky winner make it easier for everyone to enjoy a clean and fresh car, without sacrificing the comfort of eating on the go.”
