A homelessness charity in Birmingham has received a donation of £1,000 as part of leading developer Barratt Homes’ Community Fund scheme.

Let’s Feed Brum was established in 2016, and is a volunteer-led organisation that provides food, drink, essential supplies, signposting support and friendship to those on the streets of Birmingham. The charity is based close to the developer’s Berrington Place development on St. Luke’s Road.

The organisation started with less than 20 volunteers that would make sandwiches at home and serve tea and coffee to the homeless people of Birmingham, and has since expanded to over 100 volunteers that help the homeless in a number of ways.

This includes evening walkabouts every night of the week across the city centre; a weekly breakfast club on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Birmingham Cathedral; monthly clothing events at local refuges and shelters; daily deliveries of supplies and surplus food to over 40 hostels, shelters, and accommodation providers; and much more.

Tara Tomes, Co-Founder of Let’s Feed Brum, said: “The work that we do is crucial, but we couldn’t do it without the help of companies and individuals who share our passion for helping those that need it most.

“As a volunteer-led organisation, we rely solely on donations and this money from Barratt Homes will go directly to the people of Birmingham. We are truly grateful that they thought of Let’s Feed Brum.

“£1,000 pays for our daily food deliveries to over 40 hostels and shelters, which means that hundreds of people will be given food, drinks and supplies thanks to Barratt Homes.”

Adrian Evans, Managing Director of Barratt Homes West Midlands, said: “We are delighted to work with Let’s Feed Brum as part of our Community Fund scheme, and it was great to hear of how many people will benefit from the donation.

“The organisation provides vital supplies and support to those on the streets of Birmingham, and as the UK’s leading housebuilder it is very important that we do as much as we can to help organisations and individuals in the local community.”
